Substitute for noodles in soup

For me, soups work really well since they are filling and aren't too heavy on calories. The only problem I'm having is that a number of soups I prepare and enjoy have noodles. For example, when I make chicken soup, I usually add ditalini or egg noodles. I think they help make the soup filling. Any ideas what I can substitute that would be more healthy?

Can I ask what your objection to noodles is?

Any bean (white beans are good in a clear broth soup!) Adds some fiber and protein!

You could put beans. I usually put white beans in my vegetable soup. Maybe not the healthies of options, but a smidge better then pasta?

If you like them- thinly sliced mushrooms or zucchini can give a similar texture to a noodle

Or try a soup without the tradition of noodles.

One soup I make is just a tomato soup. One container of tomato sauce (tomato puree), one container of chicken stock- a little crushed black pepper to taste. Very good, it needs nothing else.

I guess I should have explained that my objection is that I'm usually short on my protein and over on carbs (using the 40% carb, 30% protein breakdown). You guys gave me some great ideas. The beans would definitely be helpful - more protein. The squash would be good too - it's a better carb than pasta. I've had the whole wheat and it's not too bad. Thanks everyone!

    Brown rice
since you like pasta, try adding a small amount of orzo pasta (they are small and look like rice to some people)

I'm really not being snarky here. How about more meat? LOL I love a really meat-y soup. What about TVP?

Barilla Plus pasta has a higher protein content than most noodles. It tastes great too!
