After you meet your goal?

So, I have a question for those of you who have met your goal. What do you do to motivate you to keep it up and never go back?

I think my biggest fear is giving up or falling back into the deep fatty hole I was in before starting this journey. I have told myself that when I start to see results, I am going to make a "poster" of my former self with some motivational quote and tape it to my bathroom mirror so I have to look at it everyday to remind myself that I never want to be fat again.

So what are things you have done or plan to do?

I try to have a daily awareness of how good I feel and how nicely my clothes fit and also remind myself how much I don't like how I feel or look with extra pounds on my body.

I spent a hell of a lot of money on my new clothes. No way do I want to give up the J. Crew colored jeans I just bought. Also my daughter is getting married in August. Now there's a good reason to maintain. I look way better than my former husband.

Personally, yes I have reached my initial goal of 70 pounds, but I think there's still room for improvement so why not? I am planning to lose 10 more pounds and keep the weight lifting going (toning). You can always be in a better shape. Even if I looked perfect, I can't see myself quitting any time in the future.

right now I am at my goal and having trouble not setting a new goal..which I doubt would look good on me..but I can see where to keep losing would be an addiction because I never want to go back to 165 EVER! :(

Been at my goal weight for 6 months now. No Fear of gaining it back. I will log on MFP until the site shuts down or I die. Which ever comes first.

My motivation for staying at my goal weight: There are many.

I met my goals, and now my goals are to take my new healthy habits and pass them on to my daughter as she learns and grows. The best way to do that is to lead by example :)

Thank you for the replies so far. :)

I know I do want to set a good example for my son as well as the rest of my family. I do believe in spending money on a new wardrobe is a good initiative as well. lol

The bride and I have spent thousands. We literally had to buy from socks to suits. That should be motivation enough. Plus, we gave away all of our FAT clothes. No turning back now.

I lost the weight before - about 10 years ago - and gained it all back.

Now that I lost the weight again, I'm determined not to make the same mistake again.

MFP is helping a LOT! I'm still setting a calorie goal for myself to maintain/build muscle. It's a lot higher than when I was losing, so it's a lot easier to stick with it. I feel like I can eat like this forever - and I plan to do exactly that.

I know what will happen if I just go back to eating whatever I want. I can never do that again!

    Oh so many.

Investment. You don't buy a car and then blow it up. I've skipped nights out with friends, passed on the cookies, tortured myself in the gym, spent nights sobbing over why I'm not getting anywhere, dealt with days upon days of aches and pains, fought with my boyfriend over what I can and can't eat, and so, so much more. Now I get to enjoy the cookie. I get to go out with friends. My body's stronger, so the gym's actually somewhat enjoyable. I've put in the time and effort, so now I get to reap the rewards. Why would I destroy that? Why would I put myself in the position where I have to do it all over again?

Money. I bought clothes to fit me now, I really don't want to spend the cash on larger sizes again.

Self-esteem. I love what I see in the mirror. I want to keep it that way. I don't want to go through the depression of not liking my body ever again. ...And honestly, I love the compliments. People tell me I look fantastic, and it makes me feel good.

Improvement. I'm done losing weight, but I'm not done. I want to be stronger, faster, better. I'm in a position to become those things, and I don't want to backtrack.

I think when you get there, you'll find reasons to stay there. Of course, life changes happen - if I were to ever lose my job, get pregnant, move, etc. who knows how I'd handle it. I hope I'd handle it well and stay on track, but that's not where I am right now. Where I am is maintaining everything I worked so long and hard for and making it even better. Look forward to it =)

first, i want to achieve my goal this time. before, i'd meet a mini-goal, then take a break for a while, only to backslide.
after i achieve my goal, i am going to set new goals: run a 10K, perhaps, or run a faster 5K, or do more volunteer work, or start playing tennis again. probably all of those!
