Anyone live in FL?

Myself and my family are thinking about moving from southwest virginia to the west side of florida.. we have heard good things about riverview and sarasota.. We are looking to move around Mid July next summer. We are looking for safety #1, stable jobs.. I'll have an accounting bachelors degree, my brother will have radiology degree, my mom has been a personal secretary at a plastic surgeons office for ever and step dad does painting/sandblasting etc.. My younger brother will just be done with high school. I trust MFP friends more than anyone!! Were looking to just start a new life, my parents have been here for 40 years and we live far away from beaches, theme parks. All we have are mountains!! So if anyone has any suggestions, if you live there, why do you love it there. If you've moved from there or to there, or you have a place where you think would be a good start place for us.. Thank you in advance and feel free to add me!

Born and raised in Tampa. Love it here. I have moved away a couple times, but always come back.

Miami is the place to be, It is the real Florida. Anyplace other than Dade, Broward or Palm beach than you dont feel likes its Florida.

    Meeeeeeeeee :)

I've lived mostly in the Central area, and the central east coast of florida. Love them both. For entertainment, orlando and miami and good bets.

Ohhhhh SArasota is beautiful! that would be a great location, depending on what you are looking for.
I am in Orlando, it's hot, busy, no breeze because it's central FL but we are 30 to 45 min away from several beaches so that's always a plus.
Good luck with the future journeys!

I hate miami, it's so vain there. I mean i'm from there, i know. I just hate it.
It's also close to a mini havana.
    Sorry, but true.
  • We're not big into partying or clubbing, were more of the stay in family but we enjoy occasional going out to dinner. We probably won't go near Miami or south Florida just because the younger population down there and it's like party central from what we have heard.

Just moved to Riverview area ourselves. I like it. You can catch the crosstown expressway to downtown tampa, there's a big mall nearby, etc....

I think youd like Sarasota. your parents may like Ft. Meyers as well, the west coast of Florida has gorgeous beaches.

I think you'd like the Sarasota area, too. I don't know much about Riverview.

I'm a native Floridian, so I'm used to it, but make sure you all are prepared for the heat, humidity and threat of hurricanes.

My family and I are also moving to Sarasota this July. We currently live in Richmond, Va. I'm really excited about our move! Good luck to you!
  • I moved from Ohio almost 4 years ago. At first I lived in Riverview. I liked it and it is close to the mall in Brandon. Then I moved into Tampa to be closer to work. Finally I bought a house about 3 months ago, out in Plant City. It's very nice and quiet there. You can be in Tampa or Orlando within an hour or less. The commute is a drag but no more than when I lived in Riverview. Sarasota is also quite nice and a bit closer to the beaches than Riverview or Plant City.
  • I'm Palm Beach County girl originally from NY and I can't imagine living anywhere but here! I've lived in California, NY, and NC and I still always find my way back here. Just this morning before work I was talking with my cousin in Connecticut about how miserable she was with the weather and I had to send her this pic I took outside my office
