Women - thin/skinny to fit/toned?

I was wondering if there was anyone around who had some pics or a success story that went from being skinny/thinner to being fit by putting on muscle? Seems like I'm the only one of my friends on here actually trying to put on weight instead of lose it... could use a little motivation! Thanks

I know my friend Tammy did it, but she's not on MFP.
Hope you can get some good responses!0 -

I have upped my protein intake, definitely seems to be helping, I'm already noticing a difference. I was hoping other ladies were out there to show me I'm not alone and inspire me0 -
I have just begun exactly what you are trying to do. I reached my goal weight, but was still unhapy. Now I am weight training and trying to gain muscle mass and burn the rest of the squishy spots away.
Sorry I do not have before and after shots - but I just began. I have been eating around 1700 calories a day, but this week I started eating 1700 on rest days and up to 2000 on workout days.
Good luck to you!0 -
I definitely don't fall into this category, but I saw a woman on reddit recently who was attempting to get more fit and she looks amazing. I thought you might be interested in seeing her post over there

Creeping into toned (or at least much stronger ) category by eating lots more protein (thank god for chicken breasts and protein powder) and lifting heavy things!0

My beachbody coach, Kiana has basically done this. She did lose some weight but not much, just fat. She is fit and toned now and was "skinny fat" before. Check out her FB page to see pics. https://www.facebook.com/InsaneFitKiana?fref=ts0

Me! I was thinner/skinnier. Now, I have slightly bigger muscles. I also lost a few pounds at one point. I just work on fitness and maintaining my weight, so I see gradual changes in body composition. I'm not actively trying to gain or lose.0

I'm in the same boat as you, with trying to convert my "skinny fat" body to a toned, muscular, strong body.
I have cut back on my cardio (I do crazy amounts of it, for no reason other than I just really like running, but I know I'll never get that chiseled, muscular physique if that's all I'm doing) and am now just trying to adjust my diet to include more protein (spoonfuls of peanut butter, anyone?t), and I just got a weight set and a bench, and have started lifting and I feel like I already look more muscular than I ever have before (maybe it's in my head, but still, I FEEL stronger even if I don't look like it). I swear I can see abdominal muscles now, after only a week. And even though my husband doesn't seem to notice a difference, I swear my butt is way perkier than it's ever been.
I'm 5'3 and started at 98 lbs.
My clothing size is the same, but I've lost half an inch off my waist, am toning up, and weigh 106. I actually look thinner than I did at my lighter weight, and I definitely look more athletic.
When you're already thin, I think it's important to not get freaked out by weight gain or worry about the number on the scale. Take your body measurements every now and then. Measure your body fat.
I'm pleasantly surprised to see that the first place I've started seeing a difference is my waist, as I always thought my "body type" just meant I didn't have a defined waist, when really, it was there all along, hiding, and that maybe my "body type" isn't even the one I thought I had. It seems like I'm actually much more "pear" than anything. Go figure.0 -
I did a quick search of the Community groups and found these:

You could also join a weight lifting group, although many of them are trying to lose weight:

I'm no necessarily trying to gain but also not looking to lose weight. I haven't changed much of my diet but I started working out. I normally eat at or right below 1700 calories on weekdays naturally so this works for me. I have noticed a huge difference in my leg strength, and I recently saw my arms while I was lifting and I had to actually stop to admire bc I never knew I could have some nice muscle definition there :bigsmile:0

I don't fit this category (although I am on a muscle building aka 'bulking' phase at present) but this girl is a hero:

I've been on the thin side my life pretty much. Last year, I had a foot injury and started eating what others around me were eating. I gained 15 pounds last year and every pound shows in a 5'3" small boned frame. I have worked about 11 of it off, and the last five, I'm trying to make sure I'm doing isolations with hand weights. I'm doing toning DVDs, floor work, and calisthenics. In the past, I'd just run it off, or bicycle it off, eventually. My calves and thighs looked great, but the rest of me needed work! Already, my upper abs and arms are looking better than they have in a long time, I've gained 1/4" in my arms and calves, and have lost in my stomach and thighs. My arms are looking more defined. I hope this trend continues! I eat back calories that I work out, and on days when I work out hard, I eat whey protein bars and add protein powder to my coffee to make sure I have the calories I need to build muscle. Good luck!0

I started very thin/low BF and have been slowly adding muscle. I put on about five pounds last year (after starting out the year technically underweight), a good portion of that was muscle.0

I'm in a little different boat because I would like to slim down too, but ultimately I don't care what I weigh as long as I look fit.
Adding protein will definitely help, which it sounds like you are doing. If you work out regularly, I would start strength training 3 days/week and do cardio only 1-2 days/week. This will help you build up some muscle and tone up.
Good luck!0 -
I was pretty slim at 5'7" and 136lbs but I didn't like that I was "skinny-fat." I looked good in clothes, but in a bikini my body looked very soft, dimply and untoned (Even though I did workout). My stomach especially!
I started doing Strong Lifts 5x5, measuring my body fat vs. lean body mass, eating more protein/calories and really challenging myself with the weights. In 8 weeks, I put on 11lbs (Mostly muscle, a bit is fat but that's to be expected when you bulk). I see some ab definition in my stomach, my butt is perkier & my arms actually feel hard now when I flex!
I am now 148lbs and am starting the "cutting phase." (Slowly reducing calories, introducing cardio & continuing SL) so I can fry the bit of fat I have & see the muscles I've been working on for 8 weeks0
