Does Calorie Limit Really Helps

Hey All,

Should we stick to the calorie limit or can we really go below the daily calorie intake?

I guess I am one of those who doesn't feel too hungry all the time.

I can eat less and survive.

P.S. I am trying to loose weight here!

Eat your budget. Question: You aren't hungry and you can't eat a lot but you need to lose weight? How did that happen?

We can all "eat less and survive" but why would you want to? You need good nutrition, especially protein and healthy fats, to support your body. Eat at or near your limit and be sure to balance your meals well. Even if you're not especially hungry at meal time eat anyway; it will save you from binging later.

I lost like 11 kgs in past 4-5 months. My life has been extremely busy since past few months and I rarely get time to think about eating something. I am also taking high water intake I guess that reduces my hunger for food as well.

I was losing weight fast till last week when I joined myfitnesspal to reduce weight as well as to contain my nutrient balance but unfortunately I feel like I have put on some weight since past 8 days :S I can feel my belly coming out again :(

I would say, try to stick to you calorie goals every day (or be under by no more than 50 on most days), UNLESS you are at a 1200 calorie limit. Then you should eat the 1200 calories according to the majority of nutritionists and doctors that I've spoken to (although there are occasions when doctors put people on less than that...that's different). If you have a goal of 1600 though, and are completely satisfied by nighttime with 1450 sometimes, I don't think it is going to be too detrimental if you don't force yourself to eat another 150 calories.

Edit: I just noticed your "I can eat less and survive" comment. You shouldn't be just surviving, you should be SATISFIED. I don't know how much you are eating or are trying to go down to every day, but if you are doing it just to lose weight and not because you are actually satisfied, then that will be your downfall. If, however, you truly are not hungry, then, like I said, it won't hurt on occasion, providing you are not going too low.

Thanks for your reply. My daily calorie intake limit is 1280 and I am willing to loose around 6 kgs more. I rarely feel that I am hungry so eating less is not a problem for me but just to fulfill my daily/weekly nutrients intake I force myself to eat more healthy stuff to reach my goal of 1280. Sometimes I go 200-300 above the limit and sometime below it but my weekly average intake is about 1240-1250 calories which is almost the same as my limit.

I am getting married next month and would like to reach the perfect weight for me which is 6 kgs less then my current weight. I dont know if I should keep eating to the limit of 1280 or I can eat like 500-600 daily and reduce my weight faster. The only thing I am worried about is that I need energy once I get married and nutrients are crucial for that :S

No, eating 500-600 will not help you lose weight faster. Your body will suffer tremendously from putting that kind of strain on it, and you may retain weight because of that.

Stating publicly that you'll only eat a paltry 500 to 600 calories here is a good way to get your thread closed due to promotion of unhealthy practices. Just saying.

Your profile says you are a guy so no you can't eat 500 or 600 calories a day and the 1250 you are on now is WAY too low. Your wife to be is not going to enjoy a man with no energy and that is sick.

No, do not go down to 500-600. Weight loss doesn't work that way. You still need enough food to fuel your body. 500-600 is definitely not enough.

If you don't feel hungry often because you're drinking so much water, try eating more calorie-dense foods when you do eat. I'm not talking about candy bars dipped in butter; there are lots of other things you can do. If you eat apple slices, add peanut butter to them. If you eat celery sticks, add peanut butter and raisins. Eat almonds or cheese as a snack instead of veggies (not all the time, just as an example - maybe replace one snack with cheese or nuts). Add cheese to your sandwich. Toss some whole wheat crackers in your soup. Things like that.
