30 min cardio 6 days

Hi guys,

I just need a little opinion on my workout routine. I was just wondering if 30 mins of cardio workout for 6 days a week enough to lose weight. I'm 5'2" and 124 lbs and I'm trying to loose at least 8 pounds by summer. I sit in front of the computer all day, so I only get to exercise around... 8 pm at night.

So here's my overall routine:
10 mins of jump rope (about 160 jumps)
2 sets of squats (12 reps)
2 sets of lunges (12 reps)
10 min of jogging
2 sets of high kicks (20 reps)

Should I add more? Increase sets? Increase reps?

I've been doing this for 2 weeks and I feel great. But I don't feel sore anymore after a few days of doing this. And I tried to cut back on what I eat, but no avail.. I need my afternoon coffee and 3 crackers to stay awake.

Any insights would be nice.

  • Yes it is enough to lose weight, and it also is enough to see cardiovascular benifits.

Don't do the same thing every day.

Change it up. Some days do something like this to help build muscle conditioning
3 sets of squats (do as many reps as you can in each set, rest about 90 seconds between sets)
    5 sets pushups
    5 sets of lunges
    3 sets single leg squats
    3 sets wall squats

then pick a different day skip the rest of your routine and try to build your jogging work it up till it is about 60 minutes.

Constantly varying the duration, intensity, and type of activities you are doing plus a good blend of strength and cardio will yield the best results

The only way to lose weight is through calorie deficit. Calories in v calories out. Exercise has many benefits but if you're still eating too many calories a day you won't lose. You need to establish a daily calorie goal and stick to it.

Thanks for the reply guys! It's really helpful.

@lizziebeth102 - I don't eat a lot through out the week and I try my hardest not to snack during work. When I feel like I need something to munch on, I drink water/Serrate Rabdosia Tea (which is very good for your liver by the way). I think the only reason why I gain so much is eating out with my boyfriend every Sunday.
