Foot Pain after 5k!

So I ran my first 5k this weekend. I was fine after the race. It wasn't until I got home and went to walk upstairs when I had killer foot pain. It's only in one foot and on the outside. I was diagnosed with planatr fasciitis about a year and a half ago. I haven't had any problems since I had started losing weight and that was always on the inside of my foot. It's not swollen and doesn't hurt to touch it. Just hurts when I walk and stand on it. The heat in the shower makes it much worse but ice makes it feel much better! I know nobody here could offer any medical adivce but if anybody has had any similar problems and would like to share how they treated it that would be great! If it's not better in a day or two I plan to seek medical attention! Thanks!!

I'm not saying I know what it is but i did have a small stress fracture once that sounds similar to what you describe...maybe that could be it. If it doesnt feel better today..I might have it checked out bc you dont want to make it get worse. :-(0

It could be a number of things. The 2 biggies would be a recurrence of plantar fasciitis in which case if you still have your ortho boot that you probably slept in before to fix the problem, you would need to do that again. You may have even broken a bone than that boot would be a bad idea to wear. That's why you need to see a doc. Too many possibilities, and different treatments for each. Hope this helps, and I hope you feel better. I would truely suggest getting fitted for a better pair of running shoes. Sounds like this has happened to you before.0

I had foot pain for a couple of months and ignored it. Finally went to the doctor, and it turns out I have a cracked bone on the top of my foot. She said it was probably from the increased pressure I was putting on my foot while exercising. So definitely go to the doctor if it doesn't feel better soon!0

I actually have shoes that I had been fitted for. The plantar fascittis was diagnosed when I was much heavier and they believed that was the cause of it. Once I started losing weight it got better and I hadn't had any problems until this 5k. It was my first time running outside. I know it could be a number of things and if it's not better today or tomorrow I will definitely seek medical attention to make sure there are no broken bones or anything.0

you have just described my foot problem i had a few months back i had over done it on the treadmill and im prettysure it was a stress fracture like you didnt hurt to touch and the heat of the shower/bath was soothing but made it worse after,i rested my foot as much as i could for the whole week then got back into running slowly after that,been fine ever since.I didnt go to doctors as i knew it wasnt broken as it wasnt swollen at all just hurt like hell once i got home and tryed to walk on it,rest and an anti-inflamatry would be my suggestion and docs if it got worse0 -
Foot Pain not fun! I also have plantar facitis and have had 3 stress fractures in a year and a half. I found out the boot did irritate the fracture pain. Maybe give it a day or two and try lots of icing and an anti inflamitory. My fractures did not show up in a regular xray. I had to have MRIs done. So when I went for the initial visit to the Dr. they took xrays didn't see anything and sent me on my way with a prescription for ibuprophen. Ended up walking on fractures for weeks. I hope my experience helps you with your decision making. Hopefully you just irritatied the planntar fascitis and it goes away with alittle TLC.0

I actually didn't have one of the boots the others are talking about. I went to a specialist and they taped my foot up for a few weeks and put me on heaby anti inflamtory medication. They then fitted me for some orthotics. I since still wear them from time to time but only buy shoes from comfort shoe stores with good support for my feet. I haven't had any problems in probably 6-9 months. I had it when I first started working out so I did exercises in the pool and on the bike etc to keep the weight off my feet till I lost more weight.
Nicola-That is exactly how mine feels. I'm trying to stay off of it as much as possible.

When you do get back to running, it's really good to run barefoot after your run for a cool down. This helps with your heel strike and it takes out some foot pain woes. It seems odd, but there is a ton of articles on its benefits. Just a thought.0

Ice, Ibuprofen and a stiff soled shoe! If it is a stress fracture, it could take up to two weeks to show up on an xray. You don't want a lot of bending of that foot, or you could turn it into a full blown fracture.0
