So I feel like every day I go over my fiber by 5-10 and my protien by at least 15! Is this ok for me? I can't think why not.... but it's the only thing I ever go into the negitives with and I am just curious.....

MFPs goal for protien is a lil low for some ppl. I get about 120g of protein a day on average sometimes more. It wont hurt you ;-)

I am so glad that it's not just me. I go over almost everyday too. I just look at it as...if I'm going to go over on something, can't think of anything better to go over than protein and fiber :)

I've often wondered about he protein too. Can you have too much protein? As far as fiber though, the number they give you is only a percentage adjusted for you based on a 2000 calorie diet. However the average person should get between 25-30 grams of fiber a day, and even more if the person is diabetic. You should have at least 1-2 bowel movements a day. Fiber is good for you. It makes you feel fuller and takes longer to digest so you stay full for longer. It lubricates your digestive system to help things process easily. Unless you're spending half the day in the bathroom, I wouldn't worry about going over your fiber limit.

you know you can custom set your own percentages and not use what MFP recommends. I changed mine to 40% protein, 30% carbs and 30% fat. I still go over on my fiber.
I too eat 120 grams of protein a day if not more! If you workout regularly you can have the extra protein.

got to Goals, then click change goals then check Custom and you can play around with your % and see what works best for you, we are all different!

You can have too much fiber and protein, but you probably aren't. Play around with the ratios that MFP has, mine are at 50% carbs/25% fat/25% protein. You might be able to drop your fat and pick up your protein. I nearly always meet/exceed my protein slightly and am a bit under on fat...but not enough to switch my ratios. And as far as fiber goes, MFP's default is WAY low. You should aim to get 25-30 grams of fiber a day and I would recommend changing it so you aim for 30 grams. Fruits and whole grains should get you into the 25-30 range!
  • the way i look at it is the other goals are maximums but the protein and fiber goals are minimums. i go over both every day and stay under everything else.

From what I've read, the protein default is low on here, as too much protein can affect the kidneys/ if you are working out and if you are drinking LOADS of water, you should be fine.

As for fibre, i don't track it, but too much can make you run to the bathroom OR it can back you up. Bit of a balance. I have reduced my bread and carb in take to one serving mid am then one to two slice of bread at noon, oatmeal for snack and then a whole grain type of carb in small portion with dinner. I've all but eliminated any non-complex carb.
