Does your period symptoms change as you loose Weight?

What I mean is as you loose weight you have different symptoms? Usually I have nothing each month as I have the coil. Now I have lost 2kgs (so far) I have stomach cramps, feel blowted and loose some blood. Nothing like it normally is? It happened like this last time I lost the weight and was wondering if any of you other women out there have had the same effects on your monthly cycle? I have heard of women who are to light have had no periods at all?

Replies

  • Actually, I think the more weight I lose the worse my symptoms are at that time of the month. I get horrendous back cramps. I do think that working out helps me not to be in as much pain. Days that I work out around my TOM, the back paid is not quite as bad as normal.

At my heaviest (I weighed 60lbs more than now) I don't ever remember having any pain remotely like I do now.

I think working out extremely can cause periods to stop or become very light. I have never had that happen to me though.

Working out and losing weight can definitely have a factor in your period. You're right, if you lose weight improperly or get too light, you can stop your period all together...I know when I was still dieting unhealthily there was a month or so I didn't have mine at all.
  • no much changes seen so far.. but I have noticed my days have reduced from 5 to 3!

I used to get horrible, horrible cramping every period and be practically non-functional for a few days.
Now, those cycles are few and far between. Much improvement on both cravings, water weight, and pain.
    (I'm 45 pounds down & 5'2".)
I do sometimes get irregular (skipping periods here and there) because of my intense exercise regimen, I assume. Skipping a period sucks because it's like PMSing for a month! -_- It may be an undiagnosed hormone thing though- my thyroid appeared normal last time it was checked.

I have very severe PCOS. (My doc said I have one of the worst cases he has ever seen. 32 on the Ferriman-Gallway Scale. ) I usually have a period 1-2 times per year; medically induced if it has been more than 9 months. They usually last 6-8 weeks, and are very heavy. I had one last fall, and was not due one for a while.

I started MFP and exercising in late January, and almost immediately got a period. It lasted only about 3 weeks. I began another one a few days ago, and this one seems to be similar to what a "normal" woman experiences. Just enough for 2-3 pads in a day, and seems like it might be gone in another day or two.

If this pattern holds, I suspect that the diet and exercise may actually regulate that aspect of my PCOS. I don't look forward to having a period every month, but if they only last a week, that doesn't sound too bad.

I also have PCOS and it has improved through the changes I've made to what I eat and taking up a focused exercise program. Cycles are pretty regular these days and not usually painful compared to in the past, hormones are balancing out....all good.
