HELP! Las Vegas for one week!

We're leaving for Vegas tomorrow, I need some help to plan my eating. I'll be on vacation, so I know I will splurge a little, but I don't want to totally fall off the wagon. I need some ideas for healthy eating while on vacation! Where should we eat? What are some "better" choices?
I'm currently on week 6 of Couch to 5K, so I'm planning to hit the treadmill 2-3 times while we're there. I'm sure we'll be doing plenty of walking and swimming while there as well.

LV has many buffets.....most of the morning ones have fresh fruit....and some surprisingly healthy options. They have a Walgreens and they sell fresh fruit there too. Pack some of your own snacks.....whole nuts, bars, be prepared as much as you can.....and eat what you take! There is a Subway on the strip too. Eat as healthy as you can and drink tons and tons of water....but have fun too! I went last summer and gained about 5 in 4 days! we took advantage of the bus system ( for my mom and aunt ) but you CAN walk everywhere!! take some good shoes too!! HAVE FUN!!0

make sure that u walk places also, just in case u go a little overboard. i went there a while back & had rented a vehicle only b/c i was visitin some1 while i was stayin on the strip, so there really is no reason 2 rent a vehicle if u're stayin on the strip. everythin is right there. & if u walk everywhere then u'll burn any extra calories as well.
make sure 2 pack some comfortable cute shoes 4 walkin lol0 -
we did not rent a car, but will have our almost 3 year old with us for 1/2 the trip, along with my parents. If it was just hubby and I, we'd be walking everywhere, but with the rest of the family there, I'm sure we'll be taking the tram a lot. :-(
I got some snacks to bring along (almonds, bars, etc.) and will be sure to pick up some fruit when we get there.0 -
last time I went (last July and October), I requested a refrigerator in the room, and I stocked it with healthy snacks and half of the Subway sandwich, etc, that i would get during the trip. I did stay clear of buffet's, and would take half of my meals back, and eat them as my lunch the next day. And like Kelly said, stock up on the fruit and nuts!
I also jogged the strip.... Albeit at 6 in the morning. But it was really cool doing that!
Have a great time!0 -
I hadn't already made my lifestyle move when I visited Vegas so I don't have many suggestions about food, but I can promise you one very important thing to keep in mind. You can very easily spend the WHOLE day walking. We stayed out on Fremont Street at THE Fremont and the only time we road the bus was up to the actual strip. From there, we walked. During the day (after 10 a.m. at least) and into the evening and night, if you're going somewhere on the strip, it's hardly worth the bus because traffic on the strip is so bad. And at some stops the bus can take almost an hour! So, we sucked it up and kept walking.
So as long as you're not going to be parked at a table or machine in the casino, get some good shoes and figure out what 6-8 hours of leisurely walking burns! I guarantee you we walked for longer than that, but that would be a conservative estimate.
Another important thing to remember is drinks - if you drink, the best way to avoid a plethora of calories is to avoid a lot of blended drinks and drinks with unknown or high calorie mixers. I recently went on a cruise with my husband and we kept our calories and our weight pretty under control by watching what kind of alcohol we got. Wine as well as hard liquor with diet soda mixers (Rum and diet coke, etc) are some of the lower calorie ways to imbibe. Try to avoid daiquiris, margaritas, etc. Those sugar syrup/juice mixes are a recipe for ruin.
Good luck and have fun! Vegas can be a truly awesome time!0 -
