Had my 5th baby 2 months ago....

I lost over 100lbs before I got pregnant with my 5th boy (SURPRISE!) and gained 100lbs during the pregnancy... he is now 2 months old and I have been back to my old routine of working out hard and counting calories now for 3 weeks ish and nothing is moving!! I am scared this weight is not going to come off... how long did it take you to start losing weight again? (I am not breastfeeding so no help there :( ) PLEASE HELP ME!!

    Just wanted to wish you luck. I have 4 kids, my youngest being 2. I have a little over 100 to lose, but unlike you, this is my first time on this journey. I'm not real sure how to fit exercise in with chasing 4 kids! Btw - my name is Ashley too :)

    Your hormones may still be way out of whack so soon after pregnancy. Many moms find it hard to lose weight until the baby is a bit older and your own hormones have settled down a bit. Also, if you are getting up all the time with the baby at night, it may really hinder any weightloss. (I am NOT advocating for a crying it out extended sleep thing. I think it's normal to get up with the baby alot for at least the first six months... their tummies are too little to go too long without eating.)

    I would focus on eating healthy eating, going for a walk every day, and enjoying your time with your little one. See if things don't change on their own in a month or two.

    If it makes you feel any better I never lost any weight (besides the initial I had a baby bit) until 6 months after both of mine. Something about the breast feeding actually made me hold onto weight until I wasn't exclusively breast feeding anymore. I've been there it can def be frustrating especially when you are eating right and exercising. Like another poster said maybe your hormones are still outta wack enough to be causing issues...

    Give your body time to recover and cut yourself some slack cooking a baby is hard work on our bodies it takes 9 months to bake them to perfection so give yourself 9 months to recover then start to sort yourself out, I'm not saying go crazy while your recovering before everyone jumps down my neck, our bodies are very clever things and if we take time to listen to them you will be surprised at the results enjoy your baby then when he's moving chase him good luck x

    Give it some more time. Eat clean and keep working out. I checked your diary and you are mostly doing a good job, but if you could keep the processed foods to a minimum that would be great.

    Also, you are only 2 mos PP, the body is still recovering from all the trauma of child birth and such.

    Are you eating at your TDEE - 20% etc?
    Only other thing I can think of is some women can become hypothyroid for a short period of time PP or for the rest of your life (:

    See an endo and check your TSH along with Free T3 and Free T4.

    I am 10 mo PP with my 3rd baby and it took me around 9 mos to get back to my pre-preg weight and I am hypothyroid.

    I went and looked back at a couple days of your diary and don't know if its a constant thing but you are pretty high on your sodium as well which could cause you to retain alot of water weight (especially if you aren't hydrating properly). Maybe try adding in some extra fruit and veggies and less of the processed meats?
  • Thanks girls! I try to keep sodium down and I do drink TONS of water a day. I just am so frustrated because before i got pregnant I lost over 100lbs and now am almost back to where I started from then and it was a lot of hard work to get there and I just dont want to have to do it all over again.. to be honest it is just overwhelming to me that I got there to begin with and now have to start from square one again!

    Problem with baby weight is that it took you 9 months to put on, and it's going to take you at LEAST that long to get it off. If not longer, especially with breastfeeding (contrary to popular opinion, that does not always equal weight loss.. I would know) and fluctuating hormones after birth.

    I haven't had more than one baby, but with mine, I gave myself at least nine months to get the weight off, and by the time she was about 8 months, I was at a weight that I was happy with. Things weren't exactly the same (I didn't have skin issues, but things were definitely more squishy than they ever were), but I was happy with the weight and how I looked. But it definitely didn't happen within the first two months, especially with how food-happy breastfeeding made me, haha.

    Give yourself time! Be patient! It sucks, but it's the amount of time you put into calorie-counting and exercise overall, not just a short while. :)

    I can't comment on the post-partum aspect of this, but I'll echo the others on the processed food & sodium :) I try to keep my sodium below 1,500mg (MFP has it set at 2,500mg by default). It's very easy to stay low if you cut out lunch meat and canned soups, veggies, etc. Even though I no longer eat meat, I'd recommend sticking to lean protein sources such as chicken breast, unsweetened Greek yogurt, fish, and eggs. Deli meats are loaded with sodium and preservatives. I'd also ditch the prepackaged snackfoods (even those marketed as "healthy") and stick with fresh fruit and veggies. Try having an apple with almond or peanut butter or carrots with hummus! Same or fewer calories and a much better nutritional profile. But don't be too hard on yourself...hormones can do wacky things to a body -- give yourself some time to recoup from the birth and just enjoy your little one!

    I don't have children, but this is my 3rd (and final) time losing 100+ lbs - for me it was precription drugs that made my weight skyrocket. It'll come off again.

    As other have said, I'm sure your body's still recovering, but the weight will come off.

    Please be kind to yourself--you will reach your goal, I know you can...in the meantime, please make yourself a soothing cup of tea, put on some soothing music, sit down, put your feet up, take slow deep breaths, sip your tea and focus on what a wonderful person
    you are.

    You had a baby 2 months ago. I've never had a kid, but it seems like you should give your body a break and not expect to lose the weight already. Calm down, it'll come off.
