ideal weight for a man 5ft 11 medium to large frame

Hi i'm not far from my goal weight now just three lbs away 11st 3, this was suggested as a good bmi (22) for my height however some of my friends think I look too skinny now. I am determined to get to this goal even if I don't stay there and put weight on after, since it has always been my target.

Anyway I just wondered what people thought was a good ideal for my size when I start doing some more weight training and putting weight on again, because I have a problem looking from the outside in.

Get your body fat percentage measured (reliably!) and base your goal on that. Leigh Peele's blog has some good information on body fat percentage, including pictures of what different men and women look like at different body fat percentages.

    BMI is unreliable

Friends saying "you're too skinny" etc are also unreliable. You don't look too skinny in your profile pic, but go to body fat percentage and what you look like in the mirror to decide if you need to lose any more fat or not.

Im 5'11" as well. My goal kind of varies depending on how muscular I can get and how much body fat I can lose.

Ive seen thinner guys of the same height get to 170. Im personally aiming for 190-200, again depending on how much muscle I can build up and fat I can lose.

BMI was never intended to be used as a weight control method, but more of a category for logging people's mass as a population. The two are not exclusive, and this is why BMI is flawed as a weight loss tool.

Seems very light to me but everyone has a different idea of their perfect weight and perfect look. Also depends what you want your body to be able to do.
I'm 5'9" and my lightest adult weight was 11st3 - and I hated it. Felt weak and puny.
Personally I would prefer to look like a rugby player (minus cauliflower ears though) rather than a (lighter/less muscular) tennis player or footballer.

I set my goal to 12st7 as that felt like my perfect weight (when I was in my 20's). When I got there I realised that I'm not carrying the same amount of muscle any more and my battered old body probably won't allow me to. Unrealistic to expect I will get back to 18" biceps at my age (perhaps!!).

I'm currently 12st4 and probably 12st would be better.

If 11st3 is 157 lb then that's very light for a 5'11 man IMO, but then it depends how much muscle you have/want.

There is no 'ideal' weight. It's going to depend on a lot of things, most specifically how YOU feel. There is nothing wrong with being a little on the lean side or a little on the husky side if that is what you are comfortable with.

Everyone will have a different opinion for you based on their personal preferences. If they prefer the bigger look they will tell you that you are too skinny, if they like more slender bodies they will tell you that you are too fat, if they like ripped bodies they will tell you to lift more, if they like lithe bodies they will say you're too bulky..The ONLY person you will be able to please will be yourself and that's the one that should matter ;)

thanks for the advice guys. still not sure, i think i'm getting too skinny, but as a veggie who doesn't cook I find it hard getting the protein levels high, bar protein shakes, greek yoghurt and cottage cheese i'm outta ideas, especially now i've cut milk out too (except soya) guess 12-12st 7 (168-175) may be a good target, but knowing me that will just increase my fat levels again.

I think i'm about 21% BF with 5% visceral fat. I do weights a bit say 30 mins every other day at 5kgs (11lbs) in each hand, but i'm not a weight lifter as such would just prefer less fat and i'm wondering if without the protein levels needed it's doing much anyway. also noticed fasting and alternate fasting seems to have cut more mussle than fat, which is a pain.
