Garmin vs Polar

I am looking at the Garmin Forerunner vs the Polar heart rate monitor. I like to run and the gps/distance feature of the Garmin is a plus, but I also like strength training and I don't know if the Garmin calorie counter would be accurate for that. I would really like to have an all day estimate of my calorie burn so looking for something I would wear all the time. Any suggestions?

I have a Polar heart rate monitor that has a GPS function, and I love it. I wear it for cardio and strength training, and it seems very accurate.

Neither are any good for a full day calorie measurement. You need the Body Media thing or something like that.

Last year I used a Polar FT7 for my indoor strength training & cardio as well as walking/hiking (when I wasn't concerned about distance). At the end of the year I started running and bought a Garmin Forerunner 310XT to track my distance and pace. Works great, even for doing indoor strength training.

No HRM is really going to be accurate for strength training.
