Anyone like me?

Hello, my name is Elizabeth. I am 23 years old, 5ft 2in, and 115lbs. So my problem isn't really that I'm overweight, though I wouldn't mind dropping a couple pounds, my problem is that I'm having a lot of trouble getting into shape. I'm currently trying to run 2 min then walk 1 min for 15 min but I've been doing that for 3 weeks now and it's not getting any easier than when I started which has me scared to try and up it to 3 min run 1 min walk. I'd like to be able to get up to 15 a min run. It's just so discouraging to not see improvement! So I'm wondering if any is having or has had a similar problem? If you had a similar problem and got over it could you share some insight into how you got over it? Thanks so much!

I hear you on the running part, same is happening with me, one day i can run on my eliptical for 30 mins, other days im on for 5 mins and i feel like im gonna fall off.

There is an app out there that people use called c25k. dont know if it will help but worth a look at :D

I echo the person above me. Couch to 5k is fantastic. I started running using this and have really seen a difference. Running is brilliant :) Ax

When I first started trying to get in shape (and in my case lose weight) I did something similar, but not quite...
I would walk to warm up and then run as long as I could. Then I would walk until I felt ready to run again, run until I couldn't, walk until I could run, etc, etc... Then I would walk to cool down. I never measured time or distance until I was able to work up to a quarter of a mile straight, then eventually a half, and then straight from a half to a full mile. I would usually do this one, two, or three miles... I think as long as you have the resolution to push yourself (but not too hard) and listen to your body you will surely get to where you want to be. Have patience and make sure you're eating enough so that you have energy to work out.

Check out Runnersworld.com they have great articles on starting out. There is one there that will teach you to go from walking to running for 30 min. in 6 or 8 weeks. I've done it and can tell you it works. If your still having problems you my need to supplement with your iron or vitamin B to get your body to produce more red blood cells which will increase your cardiovascular endurance. Hope this helps.

Thank you all for your replys. I have tried the couch to 5K and got stuck on the second week where I got frustrated, then I had bronchitis for a while and gave up. I sort of based what I am trying now off of that but found that cutting back to 15 minutes a day also makes it easier for me to fit into my schedule of work and school but maybe I'll have to up it anyways.

Also that is interesting that you mention the Iron and Vitamin B. I know I am anemic so I think I will try taking the supplements and perhaps that will help as well!
