Eating Out

I try to avoid eating out at all costs. I used to all the time and enjoy it, but I've been trying to eat really healthy and now it scares me! Anyways, I am going out with my boyfriend and his brothers tomorrow night. And we are going to Buffalo Wild Wings. So I pulled up their menu and I am shocked!!!!
I figured I would just get the 'naked' tenders. Which is good on calories. 6 naked tenders has 258 calories. Not bad at all. And 12 grams of fat. However, 6 naked tenders also has 3420 grams of sodium!!! WHAT?!?!?!?!? How is that even possible?!
Would I be better eating the chicken ceasar salad which has 490 calores, 27 grams of fat and 790 grams of sodium?
Which is the healthiest option?

BTW: I now see how I gained so much weight! The amount of calories you can consume in one sit down dinner at a restaurant is ridiculous! I don't even eat that many calories in a day now!

    I love eating out.

I eat out every chance I get.

When I do calories is the last thing on my mind.

Only worry about sodium if your doctor has recommended a low sodium diet. Otherwise just make sure you drink plenty of water.

And make sure you enjoy yourself. What's the point in losing weight if you have to eradicate your social life to get there?

Maybe don't finish the whole portion served to you.
Control, patience, good things come to those who wait.

I'm not on any special diet I just like to watch my sodium intake. And I always drink lots of water.
But you're right. I'm allowed to have fun when I go out and not worry so much about it.
I'll probably even have a few beers

I think the OP learned her lesson.

Exactly! Do your research ahead of time, make some modifications to what you eat the rest of the day to allow for a dinner out, and then have fun and enjoy. If you go over, you go over. You have the rest of the week / month / year / life to make up for it.

I would say go with the chicken tenders. (you are likely to feel more satisfied from eating them) If you get the salad, ask for the dressing on the side. Ceasers are usually drenched you could probably cut the dressing in half, and still enjoy the salad.

Don't sweat the sodium It doesn't really matter

I know how you feel as I did when I was in the throes of losing weight and being uber healthy with my food choices. However, over time, I learned that sometimes you've gotta ease up and you shouldn't regard your diet to the detriment of special occasions and times spent with loved ones.

Here are my tips for eating out survival:

    1) Treat it as a night 'off' the diet. Don't go mental but chillout and enjoy a bit of the kind of foods that wouldn't normally eat. Make up for a it by cutting back on some other treats a few days before or afterwards or have a major work-out.

    2) Choose what you want off the menu but don't eat all of it. This is my personal favourite and I use this to get through (and totally enjoy) three course meals. Eat slowly, savour, be mindful and ENJOY. Stop eating when you've had enough.

    3) Find the lowest calorie thing on the menu and sit there worrying about gaining/maintaining current weight.

ALSO - do not weigh yourself the day after eating out. Rookie error...leave it a few days.

Good luck and try to enjoy yourself! x
