Eating through stress

This has been a big problem for me lately. I have alot of family issues going on in my personal life and it's got me extremely stressed out and full of anxiety, it's gets better time to time depending on what I'm doing but I literally feel sick to my stomach with every thing going on. Anxiety I'm sure is playing a big role as well but I have absolutely no appetite, like when your sick with the flu and the though of even chewing on something makes you wanna throw up....

I've been battleing this the best I can by making meal replacement shakes. I add a bunch of stuff to my whey, like eggs, oatmeal, peanut butter and even some milk if I'm short on cals. I busted out the juicer yesterday and put TONS of veggies and some fruit in there as well. The Juice was actually very enjoyable.

I'd rather get some advice on counteracting my appette when stressed though because I just don't think living of whey and eggs is too healthy.....any advice would be greatly appreciated

When I'm stressed I put a few miles behind me. It gives me lots of time to clear my head, and the fresh air always lifts my spirits.

Not to mention, a little run never hurt anyone. I always find myself thinking of the most bizarre things while I'm running. So maybe you could try that?

The best thing for me when I'm stressed is to just walk it out. I EAT LIKE CRAZY if I stay home and around food. SO I put on my Nikes, grap my HRM, leash and dog and head out. I've found that if I just make that ME time, I do much better. There have been times that I've ended up going 5 or 6 miles

I can't eat either when i'm really stressed.. I miss my goals by a lot too when i'm stressing.

I force it.. small bites stolen when i'm not paying attention.. an apple on the way to work.. light foods that settle well in the tummy.. tea with honey.. salads.. white fish, granola chips, stuff that doesn't sit heavy after you eat it.. soups with extra veggies from the blender if necessary. Put squash in the blender with curry and carrots and whateer other veggies sound good, blend and heat. with a little water or broth to make is soupy but not turn it into a drink.

I also think if you are hungry your body will ask for food, so while you need to eat something.. i wouldn't worry about not getting enough if it's a short time period.

Also.. destress as much of your life as you can. Sometiems we can't avoid it, but there are other things we can avoid and not stress about. I know it helps me immensely when I get busy doing other things.. I don't think about the stressor and I can eat and function somewhat.. Clean your place up, clean out your car.. makes me feel less stress when everything else is organized. pay your bills early, so you don't have to worry about them. Pre-plan food so you don't hav to worry about it.. stuff like that.. Go for a run, get really good sleep.

Good luck to you. I struggle with this as well. I eat and drink my anxiety away. I am trying to remind myself that even if I eat or drink, the problem will still be there when I'm done.
