Continue on with a good gin martini. Or just get a 12 oz bottle rather than a full pint of beer with your lunch. In either case, if you are very concerned, rinse with a bit of Listerine. You can clean off the garlic breath too!
My students do this, also! They sometimes try a water bottle of vodka with plenty of success!

I enjoy a little gin (love bombay sapphire) with my mid-day beverage. I feel its a good pick me up and from what i read it really isnt bad at all as far as the calories. a co-worker recently said that i should try vodka, as their is less of a detectable smell from vodka but is still a nice mid-day kick.

Medical field would be a great cover. Hard to tell the difference between the smell of moonshine and rubbing alcohol. My dr.'s office always smells like rubbing alcohol. Off to research med school...0

Regarding those who think drinking at lunch is a sign of alcoholism: Surely it's not uncommon to want to pair alcohol with food? A couple slices of NY style pizza just go down well with a bottle of ale. Or if you have more money, why not a nice lamb burger with a glass of pinot noir?
Pairing one drink with food, regardless of time, isn't a sign of alcholism. If it were, attending a Sunday brunch would be an early warning sign of liver disease.0 -

As I have already said - some bosses encourage this sort of thing, it adds to the 'team whatever' of the workplace. I used to like it - it was universally popular, got you warmed up for friday night.0 -

Your friend is right. Vodka is low calorie and virtually smell free. So if those are your criteria, vodka is a good answer.0
