Eating out--- anyone have any tips and tricks?

Hey everyone,

I assume most, if not all, of you have noticed that their really isn't much options for healthy eating when going out to eat. I find this a challenge during lunch time since I am on the road nearly every day. I can't go home for lunch because the commute is usually much farther than would be practical.

What do you suppose would be a good solution, or a few tips and tricks for those on the road often?

Thanks in advance!

(^,_,^)

I recommend parking first. Doing it on the road could be hazardous.

I have a little Igloo cooler that I fill with cheese cubes, veggie sticks, fruit slices, and a sandwich. You can use a soft-sided or hard-sided cooler. I prefer hard-sided so it doesn't get squashed by accident.

If that doesn't work for you, you could check some of the online menus for various restaurants and try to pre-plan the best options. Restaurant food is loaded with sodium, so make sure you're drinking extra water.

pack your own lunch (I pack one every day as I cannot get home for lunch either) or look up the food item the night before so you have at least some idea of what the calories are before you eat it.

if you have to eat out at restaurants I usually try to opt for chicken.. it is normally closer to a portion size, I sub steamed vegges for a side, and if I am able to afford the calories I will ask for a few (A FEW!!) fries on the side. That is of course if you are going to a sit down restaurant.

If it's take away, Wendy's grilled chicken sandwich - without the bun, if you can afford the calories you could ask for mayo on the side or a salad dressing, and baked potato (not the stuffed kinds - cause they are bigger for some reason) and eat half, opt for water as a drink.

Chili is pretty healthy too - although if you are driving perhaps you don't want chili... unless you have good power windows for fresh air ;)

Take a packed lunch if its a regular thing. It'll save money (which is useful in buying all those smaller clothes we need along the way!) and you know what's in your food. It does take a bit of effort to get into the routine, but it doesn't take long!
    Good luck
