Weight loss plateaus & weighing vs. measuring

I started my weight loss journey on January 1st at 169lbs. By mid-end of feb. i weighed in at 159lbs. Ever since then ive been stuck at that same weight. I switched up my workout routine this past week and im now doing interval training on the treadmill along with rockin body. I obviously didnt lose anything this week like i was hoping. I might start weighing myself ever 2 week or so now. Does anyone know of any tips or advice to help me get past this?!
I have a vacation to Hawaii coming at the end of April and id like to lose atleast 10 more pounds by then. Is this possible?
Also- im obviously getting discouraged by weighing myself and not seeing any results, should i start to measure?

Everyone is going to tell you to up your calories because there's this weird thing about starvation mode or something on this board. What I'm going to say is this: take one day and eat like 2k calories. Don't work out. Eat lots of carbs that day, maybe have an extra slice of bread or two to get you up to 2,000. Then go back to your regular days. I notice a lot of people break plateaus after nights they go out drinking too -- pretty much days where they eat a bunch of extra calories.

I also HIGHLY suggest using trendweight. Do you have a list of all the weights you've been weighing? TrendWeight calculates where your weight is headed, what it seems like it's doing, and how long it'll be until you lose it all. It's just a website that does math for you for free.

Also two other things: this may have to do with period bloating so don't give up. I personally wasn't seeing ANY movement at all down and then I got my period and I've lost like 4 lbs in the past 2 weeks. And secondly how old is your scale? Is it digital or analogue? Have you tried standing on it with different weights in your hands and then standing on it again to see if it changes?

Sorry about the info dump! Hope it helps!

I was having this same problem and feeling the same. Last week I went and got a tape measure and continued with my workout. I lost only a pound but dropped inches! So I would say to start measuring, drink lots of water, and do some light lifting (with more reps) because muscle will burn the fat (as I'm sure you know). So try not to get discourage and keep pushing! Your doing a AMAZING JOB!! I think the interval training will really help too! #keeppushing

When they say starvation mode, they mean that the metabolism readjust to perform daily functions with lower amount of calories, so it reduces the amount the body burns. Do not forget also that instead of dieting one needs to change their thinking and see it as a lifestyle change. Are you going to be eating 1200 calories for the rest of your life? Try to change your exercise and stop worrying about the number on the scale. Measure your self but you wont see noticeable results every week or day, but your clothes will start feeling loose and the monthly measure will saw inches lost.

Read the thread, find your BMR and TDEE

Eat above BMR net calories, but it is up to you how low you can go from the TDEE as each person is different.

The OP isn't eating 1200 calories. She's already eating a generous amount of calories.

I do not know how much she eats, I do not know if she eats back her exercise calories. My comment was with a general tone because these boards are full of ED individuals, particularly young females, or others who claim they eat 1500 daily and when one looks at the food diary for the last month, they have either been eating at under 1000 calories, or have exercising 1000 calories and not eating any of them back.

Yes - definitely measure as you will often see results there but not on the scale. I actually went six months without a scale change (just going up and down with the same 3 lbs), but lost a full pants size and plenty of fat and inches during that time. The scale doesn't always show the progress, but the tape measure will.

Thanks so much for posting this. I have not lost any weight in the past three weeks but I have lost inches. It's hard not to focus on the scale. I don't want to *that number* to be my weight. I have to keep reminding myself not to obsess over it. So thanks for the reminder to focus on measurements. Your experience with going 6 months without weight loss but going down a size is exactly what I needed to read today. Thank you.

I prefer measuring tape than scale now. Initially, the scales loves me, where I can see weight loss almost weekly. As I get smaller, the scale doesn't move that much. The measuring will gives me motivation after looking at the scale. I have fit in all of my old clothes, but I am still heavier :)

    Look at the tape :)

Thank you ALL for all the of great advice! Im deff. gonna try not to weigh myself for a few months, although its gonna be really tough. Im going out this weekend to purchase a measuring tape, so ill measure myself every two weeks. This weekend, (21st bday is sunday) so i will be going out to dinner & having a drink. Although i wont be getting crazy because i do have two midterms the next day. But i will be sure to still workout as much as possible and eat healthier after obviously. i appreciate everyones comment :D

You just gotta stay consistent. I suggest getting rid of the scale. It wont do you any good. the best thing you can do is take pictures of yourself, and stay consistent with your eating and workout regiments!

Also, be careful with the drinking, I almost want to tell you not to drink at all, but I don't want to ruin your 21st birthday.

I find measuring and taking pictures helpful when the scale isn't moving.
