I tried to ask this a few weeks ago and didn't really get enough answers to feel like I can make a decision.

I want to upgrade my HRM. I plan to start swimming in the next few weeks and I really want to get a HRM that will be okay underwater. I've heard that some people have managed to take their HRMs in the water without any damage, but that the watch had difficulty picking up the transmission from the chest strap through the water.

I also want to make sure that I get a HRM that won't pick up on interference. Currently, when I run on a treadmill my HRM spikes up to over 200 BPM, when in reality my heart rate is in the 170s.

I'm willing to hear about some fancy expensive ones, as I'm kind of searching my options right now. And considering I use my HRM almost every day, I figure I should make a good investment in them.

I use the Oregon Scientific SE300 and it's built to be used while swimming and I haven't had an issue with interference with machines.

Garmin Forerunner 310XT GPS Fitness Monitor. It's about $350, but it was made for triathletes (waterproof).

I have a sportline that I use in the pool. I haven't had any problems with it and it is able to complete transmissions between the chest band and watch in the pool just fine. It was $75 at Target.

I would say the Garmin triathlete models as well. Some of their GPS enabled HRMs are a bit bulky (and annoying in the water), but the top-of-the-line models are more compact. Mine works fine, but as it is one of those bulkier GPS models, I wouldn't recommend it for swimming.

I also know that some Polar models are built for the water as well. I have never personally done water sports with my polar HRM, but I have owned two polar hrms (F6 and 7) and have never been disappointed with its performance.

Both companies make excellent HRMs, so you should be satisfied in selecting a swimmer specific model from either one of them.

    Cheers! :flowerforyou:
