Tel me what I need to know about HIIT!

I keep hearing about HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training). Are you guys doing this at the gym or home? What program do you use? Youtube videos, DVD's or just make up your own session?

I found some YT videos by Fitness Blender, are they any good? They look pretty tough. Any other websites or videos do you suggest I try?

If you do HIIT, how do you incorporate it into the rest of your workout schedule?

THANKS!

    Made up my own.

I have a nice plyo circuit that I came up with using the lines in the parking lot at the gym

That sounds fun! As a newbie, do you think doing the Fitness Blender vids would be good? I would feel better watching a video as I really don't know what I'm doing at this point.

i've been doing HIIT for over a year and i LOVE it! my cardio is always HIIT (insanity, asylum, Rushfit etc) and i also lift so i alternate between lifting (which is also done in interval training style) and cardio every other day.

I don't know if this technically qualifies, but Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred is pretty awesome.

Done true to form HIT, the high intensity part should be high enough to leave you gasping for air. If you can do that part for over 30 sec, the intensity wasn't high enough.

i'd recommend the fitness blender or youtube workouts if you don't want to spend the money on Insanity or something simlair, only because it sounds like your a begginer and this way you can at least look at the form.

As mentioned above real HIIT is super intense. i think you have to get to 80 or 90% of your max heart rate for it to be technically HIIT.

someone posted a work out that looked like it was entirely resistance training. you might be able to get your heart rate up that high doing it, but seems dangerous to be lifting heavy weights through the enitre circuit. tho it would be a good idea to include some kind of resistance in the circuit.

when your ready, google 'crossfit library' for ideas on exercises and 'how to make your own HIIT' for tips on structuring the program.

Yes, I am a beginner. I am in pretty good shape, but these look tough!

I didn't realize Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred was considered HIIT but now that I think about it, it probably is. I have this DVD but haven't used it in some time. THanks!
