SOUTH BEACH SUPPORT GROUP

Hi!
I am just starting out with the South Beach Diet (almost done reading the book). I am really excited. I have been doing the diet as a trial for about two days now, and can already feel the difference! I searched around MFP and could not find a newer support group for people embarking on, or already knee deep in, the South Beach Diet.
I just thought I would start this thread and see if anyone wanted to join a SB support group. I was hoping we could do weekly weigh ins or measurements, swap recipes, share triumphs and tribulations, and whatever else comes our way!
Thanks!

You must of read my mind!!! I had just posted something about starting the South Beach/low carb diet and asked about reading other MFP diaries to get ideas. I am going to buy the book this weekend and start on Monday!!!! I have been doing the calorie counting for sooo long now I am stuck. I am hoping to change things up!! This support group will be great!! Thanks for starting!!!0

I am soo excited! I am starting officially on Monday too, once I finsh the book. Right now I am just easing into it, and trying to go by the diet as much as possible! Hopefully, we can get some other SB dieters to join, but I am still so happy to have found one person who is in exactly the same boat that I am! Thank YOU so much for joining! I know we can both reach our weight loss goals!0

After a little bit of atrocious eating on my recent week long vacation, I am wanting to do South Beach to detox. Phase 1 for two weeks and then Phase 2 for two weeks. Normally, I don't really believe in "diets" per se, but I have really messed up my chemistry bad with bad food choices, crazy eating schedules, etc. I think South Beach is a very healthy way to eat, and I think it's really good to get your system squared away after bad eating.
I'm seriously considering changing my food diary goals. Right now my percentages are 40-30-30. I'm wondering what would be an appropriate setting for South Beach. Also, I know that certain things (protein) are unlimited on SB, so I'm also wondering how that would effect my calories. I think I can do SB and still keep a baseline of 1200 cals a day.
So, is everyone still hanging around in here? Been a few days.0 -
I just started South Beach (day three), and I'ts not as hard as I thought it would be, although the options for Phase One are kind of limited.
I've been stuck at my current weight for over two months and nothing has worked to get me over this plateau, increased my calories, calorie cycling, more exercise....still no change! :grumble:
My weight-in on Saturday will be the true test, as long as I've lost something, I can stand another week of Phase One!
I'll be nice to get menu ideas from others on the same plan.0 -

It should work. I think it does for most people. I wish you the absolute best of luck on your weigh-in. I really hope you lose something! Also, and please excuse me for this because it's my speech to everyone, you may also want to track your sodium. I have severe problems with it due to edema, but it can make a lot of people hold a couple of extra pounds of fluid.0 -
We have a general low carb support group that people are all on different plans if you want to join us? :flowerforyou:

I am here!!! I didn't think anyone else checked in, sorry!!! I am on day 3 and doing pretty good. I really need to get my metabolism back in check. I too have been stuck at my current no matter what I do. I started thinking I eat way too much fruit. So, I am testing it with South Beach. I am also on day 8 of Power 90. I am doing pretty good on that too. So, wish me luck!!!0

Fantastic!!!
Here is a link to a pretty low carb cookbook. You can adapt these to fit your own eating plan and lifestyle. Some of these are really, really good!!

Cool! I did not know anyone had joined us! Sorry for the delay...welcome!
I hope everyone is doing well with the South Beach diet/ and just the general low carb lifestyle!
My body does well with low carbs and I lost 4 pounds last week doing SB. Hopefully the combination of starting to eat my excercise calories and resuming my low carb lifestyle ( after weight watchers left me maintaining the same weight for four months), I can reach my 30 pound weight loss goal.
I was thinking that we could share though about the diet, tiumphs, hardships, etc...but we could also post our weight loss on weigh in days and trade tips. Just an idea though. Whatever is cool with me!
Good luck! Hope you all have a healthy week!0 -

Oh yeah! That's that Paleo stuff you're doing, right? I confess I'm fairly interested in it. This cookbook looks great! :bigsmile:0 -

Just in case anyone is interested, I'll be blogging a bit about my experiences with the diet. I also like to do informative posts with tips and such (aka my sodium rants) from time to time.0 -

Yes it is..........It is a bit stricter than Atkins or South Beach, but I am able to lose a bit of weight and have a bit more energy while I sort out my Endocrine issues...........
I have been doing the grilled veggies and YUM!!!0 -
Can I join!!!
I started South Beach on June 1st and have lost 6 lbs!!! I'm down to 134!
My goal is to be down to 129 by my birthday, June 20th...
125 by July 4th
120 by July 31st...
I'm only 5ft 2in so being 134 is just at the top of my healthy bmi
I plan on starting to exercise next week when I'm done with phase 1.
I'm feeling really good and I'm happy that I started this new lifestyle. It hasn't been hard and I'm able to incorporate this new way of eating into my family's diet.
Gotta go, but will post more later!

Hi all. I came to work ill-prepared today because my husband and I had an argument last night............went to bed feeling down and woke up late this morning...........
So, I went to Hardees for lunch, trying to keep it as clean as possible.........
I ordered a side salad with ranch dressing (dressing leaves a bit to be desired and had 4 grams of carbs) and a Grilled Chicken Club low carb style..........(they wrap the sandwich in lettuce for your bun).
I am having water to drink as usual...........
I have to say for a Fast Food meal, it was pretty darn good. Again, not something I would do everyday, but it is as clean as I could get in a pinch.0 -
Hey all! Just wanted everyone on the Low Carb and South Beach threads to know that I made a very extensive blog post yesterday about controlling sodium while you are doing SBD. Of course, much of it translates to general low carb as well.
http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/gtrigg/view/life-doesn-t-have-to-be-salty-on-the-beach-29343
I'm posting pretty much every day now, entries about my experiences with SBD but I'm also trying to do recipes, etc. I'm a crusader, and I want to spread the word.0 -

Great blog! Thanks!
I stayed on plan all weekend and now this is day 14 of phase 1! Will weigh-in tomorrow...I'm planning on starting to walk/run after work today or tomorrow (weather permitting). This time last year I was running 3 miles a day/3 days a week, so hopefully this summer I will get back to that routine...
Have a good day everyone!

This is day 8 of South Beach. I am doing pretty good I think...still miss fruit a little. I have only lost one pound since starting but I am happy with that - I was pretty much at a stand still for the last three months and at least it has moved in the right direction and not back up. I need to watch my salt, (previous post) I am not too good with that - but I do use sea salt. I am able to South Beach and stay under my calorie, so that's good. I am really trying - I was having a hard time -but I think I am past that and motivated again. (even one pound in the right direction can do that) !! Hope everyone else is doing good!!! Keep posting!!!0

Good job lobster!
Any loss is a good loss!!!
I don't know if anybody else has found this blog, but it has some great recipes that are all sb friendly!

Hey, Lobster, congrats on the pound! I am a bit sea salt ignorant. That's terrible, I know. I mostly eat lite salt when I add salt at all. From what I recall, it's not lower in sodium than my lite salt, so is it really better? Staying under my calorie goal has been rough. There's so much food I have to eat on SBD that I have to seriously up my exercise! I am pretty happy, though. I'm hardly ever hungry, energy is through the roof, and all the working out is good for me.
And thanks so much for the blog link, Fit! I am always looking for new inspiration for new and tasty dishes. :happy:0 -
Thanks gtrigg!! About the sea salt - don't hold me to it but sea salt is less processed than table salt and or lite salt. It is the natural healthy alternative. (quote from eating clean magazine) There are no/less additives to sea salt and it less processed. It has a stronger taste and I use less of it, therefor reducing my sodium. I started using sea salt when I started trying to eat "clean" - all natural foods and less processed food. This is what I read - but I am sure I can find something that says the opposite. I am slowly learning there are a million opinion about what is healthy!!!!! So I am not sure it is better - it kinda depends on what your goal is. I really like salt, and sea salt has a strong salt taste. LOL0

The Mediterrean Sea Salt is a bit milder and has a bit of a sweet taste to it.................0 -
Phase one completed! Total of 7 lbs lost...It really wasn't as hard as I expected. Went for a 30 minute walk and then played soccer with my dd's last night. Felt great to sweat!
Have a great day everyone!

Congratulations!!!
I think most people find that low carbing is not hard if you like lots of veggies and protein...............then throw in some fresh fruit and you are living the natural life!!!
It is not working for me right now. I am having some major health issues right now. Low carb is keeping my sugar levels in check, but I am not losing any weight.0 -
Lobster / Lioness - I will have to try it, then. I'm VERY much in favor of foods that are processed as little as possible. I do sprinkle sometimes. In fact, most of the time I don't even log it, because it's maybe a dozen grains. Getting something stronger would be great.
Fit - Alright! Hello, Phase 2! What are you adding? I'm thinking when I get there I'm going to do fruit. Probably an apple for my snack. I LOVE apples and cheese.0 -
Every is doing great! Gtrigg I have been trying to get my sodium under control, but some days it just gets the best of me! At least I am aware the importance of it now, thanks to you!
I have lost 4.5 pounds so far and just completed week one of Phase One! One more week to go! Hopefully I can drop another 2 pounds, and I will be a happy camper!
Good luck to everyone!0 -
