Tightness & Soreness behind the knees - Suggestions?

Options
I have noticed this week that I'm feeling tight and somewhat sore behind my knee joint. The left has the tightness more toward the inside edge, but the right has it more towards the outside edge. Any ideas what might be causing it & what to do about it?
I do treadmill, elliptical, weights with squats & lunges, cycling, hiking, & zumba as my primary forms of exercise.

Doing a light row on the rowing machine helps my knees.

Do your knees hyperextend? I have to stretch - a LOT - in order to keep my knees from doing all kinds of freaky things when I work out. The increased flexibility actually comes along with strengthened ligaments and tendons, which help keep your knees from doing the wacky. Though I'd definitely recommend laying off squats and lunges until your knees stop hurting.

Try stretching your hips. You can google some moves. I get tight in the hips and it cascades down into my knees, but I also suggest checking your shoes are giving proper support.
