Knee Brace

My knees have always been a bit sensitive to exercise, keeping me out of more strenuous cardio activities, including running. It has been particularly bad lately as any activity (elliptical, food shopping, work) has my knees achy for hours.
Can anyone suggest a good knee brace to steady and support my knees while I try to strengthen them?

Have you been fitted for shoes? My knee was bothering me while running and I went in and got fitted for shoes and it made a world of difference.0

I'd echo the comments of the person above. I would have your gate tested. It has made the world of difference for me.

I have had a few a knee problems over the years, and went thru the options. The knee braces are not the easiest to run in, but for me I found a simple compression sleeve was all I needed. Each of us are unique, so you will have to try a few options to see what works best for you.
I also suggest making sure your shoes are correct for whatever you are doing. Many stores do not have great staff for this, so many times it is up to you to try on lots of shoes at the store and then more if you find after buying a pair you still get shin splints or some other pain. I had to buy a few to find a pair that works best for me. It turned out to be a mid range pair of Adidas in my case, so don't assume the more expensive equates to better.0 -
Thanks, all! I completely forgot that my shoes might be the problem, because it happens in whatever pair I'm in. Bahhh, knees kinda suck sometimes.0

the only person recommending a knee brace is an orthopedic doctor. the wrong type of brace can do more damage than good.0

Probably best to see a sports physio or similar to actually find out what is wrong with your knees.
Many braces are injury/condition specific - for example I've lost my PCL so use a very specialist brace.
In many ways the best brace for your knees are strong quads so worth taking some time out from cardio to strengthen and build your quads.
You might find that there are some cardio exercises your knees can tolerate and some you can't. For example I can cycle, use an elliptical and row comfortably but running just hurts me (lost a cartilege as well as the the PCL....).0 -
I agree that you need to see an Orthopaedic doctor for a knee brace. I thought a knee brace would fix my problems....the one I got...not prescribed...just made everything worse!
Now, I have been seeing Sports Medicine, found out I have "Runner's Knee". Where the kneecap slips. I have to STOP wearing the brace, hold off on Cardio for a couple of weeks, and strengthen my Adductor muscles.
Definitely see the doctor!!!
Oh, I will say, once I got my shoes fit for me; that made a GREAT change! So I highly recommend going and having shoes fit for your feet and gait....but also see the doctor!
Good Luck!0
