How deep should the water be for water jogging?

I suffer from Fybromyalgia and the only exercise I can do is in the water and I have been doing water jogging and water weights but I have been doing the jogging in about 4 ft of water and i was told to do it in the deeper end. I am wondering if anyone here knows if this is true or not. I would love to be able to do land exercises but because of the fybro and a shoulder replacement the only exercises I can do is in the water. I am wondering if there is anyone else in the same situation and if so have they had success in losing weight.

Not in that same situation but I do add water aerobics to my workout weekly...I asked the dr this same question and if you do it in deeper water there is more resistance because you have to treat water to hold yourself which burns extra calories when treading water but according to my nutritionist that I talked to, as long as you are emerged in water to where there is resistance then you can water job in 4 ft deep water....i normally do 15 minutes in 4 ft and then I do 15 minutes in 6 ft and i can feel a difference in the resistance....0

Yikes, really! I'm 5'1" and 4 feet would be hard for me! (I also am not a strong enough swimmer that I feel comfortable in the deep end for longer than it takes to get to the side of the pool). I can't imagine jogging in 6' of water!0

lol i know its difficult and it took me awhile as well..i'm 5'2....i prefer 4ft because its more comfy but when i want to burn more calories, i take a ball or floating device and i do it in the 6 ft....sometimes i go and just tread water but thats when i have other people with me so that if i cramp or something, they can save me....0

I also do the majority of my exercise in the pool, for me i have found being in deeper water i keep moving , due to having to tread water, when i start to feel tired i will take a couple of minutes and just float on my back gently kicking my legs and moving my arms, i just make sure i keep moving and i know that i am getting in a good workout. Swim a couple laps rest and do it again. I also looked up some water aerobics and was surprised to find out i was already doing most of the movements they recommend
so keep it up and i am sure you will see results and i know i feel so much better when i am done swimming for the day! wishing you much success on your journey :flowerforyou:0 -
Thanks for the comments, my pool is only 4ft 6in at the deepest, I did try to tread water today and I used the water weights to help me stay afloat , that seemed to help alot. I am going to try to do that more often. Right now I am doing anywhere from 30-45 minutes of jogging and then 15 min. of water weights and then I use the "noodle" to do crunches and some swimming only with my legs, I can for sure feel it when I am done, it might take awhile to get where I want to be but I am not giving up this time!!0

You should be doing this in the deep end of the pool (you should not be touching the ground). BUT, you should be wearing a belt to help you stay afloat. You can purchase these at most sporting goods locations, pool suppliers, swimming stores, and the like. Online might be the best place with regard to price.
