Owww my thighs hurt after running !

I'm new to running but can do 40 mins elliptical and other cardio no problem. Yesterday I ran a couple of miles, all ok. Today I ran 3.2 miles and the top front of my thighs are both killing.

It hurts to raise my feet now. This happened half way round but I kept going. Any idea what's wrong and if I should not run again for a few days ?

Everything else fine except my forefoot hurt a bit afterwards. Ok now thou

It sounds like you just need to ease into the miles a bit more. Running does use some different muscles than the elliptical so maybe the 2 days in a row (I am assuming this is new) was too much for them. I always recommend getting fitted for shoes at a running store so they can see if you pronate, supinate, need motion control. etc. The right shoes make a big difference although I doubt that is the cause of your current soreness

Everything I have read says you should run every second day and not increase your mileage by more than 5% a week so your muscles can work up to it. So, maybe take a day or two off, or dial back your mileage and build up to longer runs.

Try the C25K program...it gradually builds you up to running comfortably. The idea is to increase distance gradually and run every other day with two days off at the end of the week. But try resting, icing and elevating for a few days before you start :)

Good advice but I want to run far !! I'm impatient.

Aside from my hips I would have gone further. I didn't check the distance til I finished or I would've run a 5k.

Also my time was crappy but I had my two doggies with me who need to stop for bathroom and sniffing breaks. They were barely breathing heavy ! Super fit doggies used to playing Frisbee and football everyday !
