I just started this 3 days ago....and I keep going over on the proteins and not using all of my cal./carbs/fats...I know if I got me a king size bag of M&M's there wouldn't be this issue...lol....juuuuust kiddin'. But seriously what are few foods that don't have the proeins in it? And will it slow my progress if I have too many proteins over? Been over from (I think) 14 and under.
Really enjoying this site....BUT I DON'T HAVE ANY "FRIENDS" YET..... .lol.....Thanks for your help. Peggy

I almost always go over my protein amount by some, but not over my calories or fat. I figure it's better to be over on protein (not hugely amount) than "bad" carbs (not counting fruits, veggies). I'm curious to see what other people write!0

Hey -- add me as a friend. We can help eachother.
I am usually over my proteins....as long as it is coming from a good source of protein, lean and healthy.0 -
I was thinking the same thing about going over on proteins is better than the fat /cals or carbs. Thanks foryour reply maybe we both will learn something new today.0

feeling better about this already...thanks. And I will add you as my friend...kind of lonely in here by myself...LOL0

hello,
It is my understanding that going over proteins but the best way to get friends is to read profiles tosee who has similar goals as you and request.0 -
I am fairly certain that as long as you aren't consuming like 300 grams a day, it doesn't hurt anything, your body gets rid of what it doesn't need. I consistently go over on protein everyday and have lost 1 lb a week since January. Good luck!!!0

You can adjust your protein/carb/fat levels as well, try looking for posts about that in the message boards.0

I purposely go over! I eat fish everyday - as soon as I log that - boom! OVER! I average 2-2.5 lbs a week weight loss so I am not complaining! (I am always under on carbs tho... I am doing more of a low carb high protein diet tho)0

I usually go over on protein and fiber but I am eating healthy protein so I think it is ok.0

I know....chicken... fish..egg whites...they are all healthy..thanks for your input!! Congrats on your weight loss!0

I wouldnt worry about going a little over on protein, your body only uses what it needs and disposes of the rest.0

Going over protein isn't bad really. Theres still a lot of mixed research out there as to how much you are supposed to consume. Some say .25-.5g per pound others say 1g per pound, stay within that range and you'll be fine.0

Also, think about changing your defaults from MFP's percentages. Some people around here do 40%carb-40%protein-20%fat, I do 40-35-25 after talking with my doctor and trainer (I also upped my fiber goal and lowered my sodium and sugar).
MFP does a default calculation that may not be best for you, depending on how you work out.
The USDA defaults actually say 18% protein, 29% fat, 53% carbohydrates - but if you're doing weight training on that ratio, it's probably GOOD for you to be going over.
Not being a nutritionist I can't know what's best for you, but if you google percentages of macro-nutrients it will give you a WIDE ARRAY of what the options are. Try some out! See what works for you!

Thanks for the tips...I will check out the site. Loved your quote! :laugh:0

I read an article that linked eating too much protein (if ideal is a half gram of protein per pound of body weight) and the potential for osteoporosis (and other bone tissue problems) if you aren't getting enough calcium. I think calcium supplements are a good idea, anyway!0
