Green Coffee Bean extract? Garcinia Cambogia extract?
So, before I get flamed or derided for a silly question, please know that I am a nurse and I am not looking for a "magic pill" or "quick fix". I got myself into this mess and I'm prepared to settle in for the long haul to get myself out of it to be healthier and more active for life.
Having said that . . .
I do see/read things about these two suppliments - well, lots of suppliments to be honest, but these at least seem to have some reasonable double-blind studies and some scientific mumbo-jumbo to back them up. I like the idea of something to help tweak the process, of course.
We are going on our "last hurrah" family vacation at the end of May - "last hurrah" because my oldest son is graduating high school and leaving the nest. Who knows when we will indulge in this sort of huge family trip again. Not only our immediate nuclear family but grandparents and a set of aunt/uncle are coming as well. I would love, love, love to lose as much as I can between now and then - in a healthy way - and then be satisfied with slow and steady wins the race for whatever is left.
So I guess I am looking for a "boost" without dropping my calories to a ridiculous level or exercising every waking moment. Right now I am walking 4 miles about 5 times/week. I'm aiming for 7 days/week, but I just don't always get there. Two of those days I do a run/walk interval period and on the 'just walking' days I carry 3 pound hand weights throughout the walk and do various upper body moves with the weights.
I would be very grateful for insight and opinion on the subject.

I don't know. I drink green tea and that seems to help. But other then that I take a basic woman's multi vitamin and a pill for joint support. Seems to be working just fine.0

I love the green coffe bean extract - first thing to say in 20 years that I actually like0

why not get some glucomannon fiber tabs to go along with whatever you get?0

I didn't find any studies on green coffee bean.
There is sound research on green tea if you drink 2-3 cups a day. I drink green tea, can't say if it does much, I just happen to like it.0 -
I have never tried any of these kind of supplements, but my Mom's friend tried Green Coffee Bean and lost 5 lbs her first week. I don't know what happened after that, we will have to ask her and find out.0

I take a fair few supplements, but none of them are for weight loss, but rather to help me since I have difficulty getting all my vitamins naturally every day. I take a women's multi ( a good quality one), fish oil, some vit. D, some astaxanthin since I does actually help me to minimize my sunburning (the luck of the Irish, I'm afraid), and sometimes I take green tea or green coffee because it makes me feel more energized.
I will take a melatonin at night and something called zyflamend which actually helps my knees feel better since I kind of ruin them with my exercises.0 -
Yes. I use garcinia cambogia... Not a substitue for diet or excercise. But it works for me. Did my research.0

I take Rhodiola Rosea to help with stress management - it reduced my 'binge' eating but our bodies are ours and sometimes that little deficit can cause problems in reaching our goals. If it is something that works for you then go for it. As you mentioned you are a nurse so you know that. :flowerforyou:0

There really aren't supplements that will help with weight loss. Green coffee bean, raspberry ketones, etc don't make you lose weight. Fiber pills can help you feel more full but you can get fiber from fresh foods instead of the processed garbage they put in those pills. Green tea pills have the caffeine boost but won't help you lose weight. Pills can be far too harmful, even those labelled as natural or herbal.
I personally don't take supplements. I don't even take a multi vitamin. The most I take is a B vitamin about once a week.
If you can, lifting heavy will help change the look of your body a lot. Not lifting those 3lb hand weights but lifting heavy enough where you can do about 8 reps with proper form before you can't anymore.0
