I have been using MFP for almost a month, and I have only lost a total of 5 lbs in that month. I am going to the gym minimum 4 times a week, for a 1/2 on the elliptical, doing an intense speed. I am under my calorie goal all of the time, and making very healthy choices when I am eating. I think something I am doing, is weighing myself everyday to see a difference, and I'm not. One morning it will say 179 and then this morning, it says 180.6

What am I doing wrong? 4 years ago, I let myself get up to 215 lbs, and I lost 70 lbs doing what I am doing now, and now it just feels like it is not coming off fast enough. Is it because my body is different having 3 babies in 4 years?

Any advice? thank you in advance!!

How far under your calorie goal are you? Because you still want to make sure you're getting enough calories. If you're doing all that workout with few calories it may offset all the hard work you've been doing (so that's what I hear).

Also, I have a problem with stepping on the scale everyday too...and it's frustrating that it doesn't change much. When I was doing Weight Watchers before and I didn't weigh myself but once a week, it worked better for me...if you need to weigh yourself twice a week just so you can have an idea...and weigh yourself at the SAME time...you do weigh less in the morning (well most people weigh less in the morning).

I wish you the best of luck, and yes it can be frustrating! But it's worth it in the end, it's a long journey...

    Good Luck!

Don’t be so hard on yourself, 5 pounds in one month is great! I only lost 3 in my first month. The slower it comes off, the more likely you are to keep it off. Don't go too far under your calorie goal, your body will think you are starving yourself and it will hold on to all the fat. Also, your weight will fluctuate on a daily basis. The best advice I can give you is to only weigh once a week at the same time. I weigh in every Monday when I wake up, after using the bathroom and before eating of drinking anything.

Don’t get discouraged, you will have ups and downs in this process, but if you continue to eat healthy and exercise the weight will come off.

It is easy to get frustrated when we make changes in our lives and think we should see huge differences. I have been working the same way. Logging in under my goal and working out up to four times a week. As long as you are losing weight, that is important. Slowly is fine. Try to find some other ways of monitoring your changes. Do you also keep body measurements? Sometimes these change more that the pounds. Are you able to fit into clothes that have sat in your closet for a while? Maybe you notice you have more energy or your mood has improved?

Our bodies do change after having children. And as we age our metabolisms change as well. I didn't want to believe that one but as I reached one of those milestone birthdays I realized the challenge to shed my pounds was getting harder.

It can be frustrating when the scale doesn't change much but there are other things to think about too. Good Luck and keep up the great work you are doing already. If you keep progressing at the rate you're going now, you will be ten pounds lighter.

5 lbs in a month is great! The body can easily lose a lb a week on what you are doing (which is a good rate of loss), but it will put you into a plateau if you do not eat your daily minimum requirement for calories. Eat! (do I sound like a Mother? I am. ;)
And drink lots of fluids. :drinker: Have fun with this process. Hugs.

Recommended weight loss is a pound to a pound and a half per week. I would say you are right on track.

You guys are awesome! thank you all so much for the advice! I am staying about 400 from my calorie goal, which I didn't think was too bad! and I never really looked at it from the other way, I did loose 5 lbs in a month, which is healthy! I guess I just get so frutrated with the whole process sometimes, I just want my body back. I have friends who have just had their babies, and 4 months later it is off, but it's their firsts, and I am on my 3rd.. I now look back and remember how easy it was taking the weight off after my son.

I just needed to be reminded I am doing the right thing by eating and working out, and doing it the healthy way and not starving myself. Thank you all again for the words of encouragement :)

Yes - a 5 pound loss is great! When I had my first 2 kids and was in my 20's, I could drop 25 pounds without any problems or hardly any effort. I had my 3rd child at 36 and I swear I could be stranded on a dessert island with nothing but water for a month and I still would not lose anything! I have definately seen a huge difference in how this all works since having my last child!!

Look at the long-term goals -- where you will be in 4, 5 months, losing a couple pounds a month -- it will all add up in the end!!

    Stay strong!
