I snacked on some popcorn, thinking nothing of it.I know it has butter in it and all that, but it's popped with freaking air....What the heck???
I DID NOT REALISE that it would be just under 500 calories for 100 grams.Who even stops at 100 grams???
Seriously shocked about that.At least I know now.I never really cared about the calories in pop corn because I very rarely eat it,even at the movies.
I just didn't see the evil behind all that tiny morsels of deliciousness.Lucky I logged it in as I was eating it.Otherwise I would never have known.
Be warned. And for all of you who already knew. You should've said something!!!
Oh well.Lesson learned :ohwell:

what kind of popcorn? i know movie popcorn is as bad as a greasy fatty hamburger (but without the protein!) but a lot of the home brands arent terrible unless its got a ton of butter.
maybe go for those mini bags? whether its the 94% fat free or the regular kind, its portion controlled0 -
The popcorn itself is not the problem. Do you like it with salt?0
-
Isn't popcorn light, so 100g is quite a lot? I always figured it wasn't all that great for you because of the butter and the carbs.0
-
Relax . . . .
100 grams of popcorn would have trouble fitting in the back of a pick up truck.
You'll be fine.0 -
I just looked it up here.. http://caloriecount.about.com/calories-popcorn-air-popped-i19034
Don't know how accurate it is, but they say that 3 cups of air-popped popcorn is only 93 calories. No worries in that.
I rarely eat popcorn except for the evil stuff at the movie theater that has a million calories. I have to skip a meal to justify doing that... but sometimes it's just worth it. :-)0 -

Most store bought microwaveable popcorn is bad - full of salt and bad fats. Also the low cal skinny popcorn isn't great if you don't portion control.
After I discovered that my small bag of popcorn at the movie theater was 600 calories I decided to make it at home, cheaper and far less fat!!
Get popping corn from your local grocery store - 99p. 1/2 cup of unpopped corn is about 50g and makes a large bowl of popped corn. You need 1 tsp of olive oil to coat the unpopped corn, you can add salt or other spices to taste - I add paprika. Put in a large non stick frying pan, cover and heat for about 4 minutes at medium heat - corn will start popping at about 2 - 3 mins and then you just take it off the heat when popping reduces to 1 or 2 pops over 30 sec. Keep covered for 2 mins after for the last few pops.
Enjoy - all of that will be about 250 calories.0 -
100g is a LOT of popcorn. I buy big bags of Jalapeno and soured cream popcorn and that's 75g and eat 20g at a time which is plenty.0

I don't know if you have a Pret near you however they sell skinny popcorn which is YUM!0

Ahhh my bad, sorry. Just so you know, chocolate's also high in calories and fat. So are crisps and nachos. Oh and chips too. Thought I'd warn ya beforehand. Glad to be of service0 -

Let me guess, you're the kind of person who doesn't get humour unless it has "lol" at the end of it.0 -
I think most people stop long before 100g. 100g is a lot of popcorn,
Buy yourself an air popper (they are about £12 on amazon), make some at home and take it with you. That's what I do, and I only use salt, not butter. 50g (which is a HUGE portion) is about 190 cals.0 -

you don't even need an air popper or oil to make popcorn at home! Just pour half a cup into a paper bag, roll down the top and put it in the microwave for two minutes or so and voila tasty, chemical free popcorn! I add my own butter and salt or whatever seasonings so I can control the amount and calories. Popcorn is one of my favorite snacks!0

I'm confused all the popcorn I buy says its like 50 calories for a couple cups of popped popcorn.0
-
lol... Okay, since I forgot to warn you about butter. I'll warn you about these foods:
A small slice of pecan pie has approximately 500 calories.
Speedy Freeze 24 oz has 1,200 calories.
I really think these stuff need nutritional labels to not freak people out...0 -

Shocked??? I went to Chipotles and had the veggie burrito with the whole wheat wrap. after we got home and i logged it in i found it was a whopping 800 or so cals!!! So much for trying to eat healthy at that p;lace!0

I myself, have an air popper and buy popcorn kernels in bulk. No need for oil, just pop in the microwave. I think you get about 3 cups popped for around 100 calories. I sometimes add a splash of water or butter spray, (but I've read that stuff isn't great for you, so I don't use it much anymore). Then if you like it salty...add a little bit of shaker parmesan cheese. If you like it sweet, I know it sounds gross, but a packet of splenda does wonders.
But yes, popcorn is a good low-calorie snack. It's definitely lacking in the nutrition department, but it helps fill in the hunger cracks.

Thanks for the advice and all the suggestions.I will definitely take it on board.
As for those of you who warned me,I will heed your warnings(as best I can)
I appreciate all the input guys,and yes 100 grams is a lot0 -
The Walmart Subways offer a big bag of popcorn, a single serving is 3 cups is 140 calories. Taste really good. Of course I eat 4 cups, which brings it up to 187 calories, but who's counting? LOL0

Exactly what I thought when reading some of the replies lol0
