Sugar Intake

Hi all,
Does anyone know what the recommended sugar intake is a day?
I've noticed that I keep going into the red of what myfitnesspal suggest. I only eat a yogurt and apple/fruit a day. The past few days I've had bad days with cholocate and things I shouldnt eat!! Not good but determined to stick to everything from today onwards. Just not sure how to do it on so little sugar....
Or maybe if anyone knows any good low sugar and calorie snacks..that might help?
Thanks
Sam

Just don't eat things with added refined sugar, and don't worry about the fructose in fruit. MFP doesn't distinguish, and people freak out about their sugar intake. A piece of fruit and a yogurt is fine. Do note that most sweetened yogurts have as much refined sugar as candy - so if you're not eating candy, then maybe switch to an unsweetened version.0

Nuts are a great snack, but you need to make sure you eat a proper portion or the calories can creep up on you.0

How do you feel your body responds to simple sugars?
I find that sugary foods by themselves make me feel pretty bad, but if I eat sugary foods with some fat and fiber I feel great. So, for example, if I want a date or two I'll eat them with some nuts. I know some people who feel bad when they eat sugar no matter what, and some people who eat simple sugars without any adverse effects.
I say let your body be your guide. There are plenty of people whose body responds fine to sugar, and if you are one of them I don't see a need to be very strict about it unless you are overeating it to the point that you are undereating more nutritious food (and that doesn't sound like the case from your post).0 -
Thanks everyone.
Tenintwenty - Thanks for the advice - I will sort of 'ignore' the fructose sugar a little then. I've switched to a yogurt (or will be after shopping this evening) to one with lower sugar in it. Hopefully that will help.
Holothuriodea - Honestly I haven't really paid much attention but after my yogurt and fruit with my lunch I feel ok. I will keep an eye over the week and see how I feel. Thanks for the advice.0 -
I receive emails daily from Dr. Mercola.....and this is what I remember reading on SUGAR:
I've recently read that the average person should consume no more that 25 grams of sugar daily.
If you are obese, have high blood pressure, diabetes or high chloesterol you should consume no more than 15 grams daily.
And yes....you should consider the sugar in fruit; although its natural ....it remains sugar!
Which it is very easy .....I'm finding to overly consume regardless. Suger is in so many things we eat!0 -
If you are active, not obese, and do not have a family history of diabetes, then sugar shouldn't be a problem for you. Unless you drink fruit juice or eat candy all day then it's not even something worth thinking about.0
