What kind of blender are you using?
We have a vitamix--so I include a lot of greens in my smoothie. Kale, spinach, dandelion greens, parsely, etc. Experiment until you find a combination you like. Tea is a great base... Green tea or Ooolong tea. Lemon juice (organic) helps me lighten up the flavor of the greens. I find that cucumbers give the whole thing a refreshing quality :-)
A "smoothie" expert is David Wolfe...he's a little weird to look at but he's very knowledgeable :-)

There is so much to a smoothie. There is an app for both android and I believe iOS called smoothieRX it will give you 100's of ideas based on many different health concerns. I use it daily.
Here's another thing I've had to over come. Some of them just wont taste as good as you like. Take for instance mine this morning
peach, onion, kale, watercress, blueberries, rasberries, strawberries, orange, chia seed
Did it taste good, well, not really. Is it totally healthy YES!
For me (on my way to beating type 2 diabetes) its worth it. I suck it up - keeps me full for 4 hours.
Mind over matter0 -
Thanks!0

can you put splenda pack in your smoothie? It will probably taste better.0

I have a fruit & yogurt smoothie every day (it's the only way I like Greek Yogurt which is really good for you).
1 cup Dannon Light & Fit Vanilla Greek Yogurt
6 med/large strawberries
1/2 cup blackberries/raspberries (depends on my mood)
1/4 cup Mott's for Tott's reduced sugar apple juice
1 splenda package
3 ice cubes
This is 130 calories and fills my GNC Live Well Blender Bottle, and is very satisfying and tasty0 -
The BBC Good Food breakfast smoothie is delicious. The recipe is on my food diary blog - ameliasfooddiary.wordpress.com - as I had it for breakfast yesterday morning

1 banana
1 cup of Dannon Light and Fit Vanilla Yogurt
1/2 cup of Quaker whole grain uncooked oats
1 cup of ice0 -
Based upon some things I've listened to on podcasts or read about, I do basically this:
1 cup almond milk, unsweetened, or unsweetened coconut milk
1 scoop protein powder, unsweetened (low carb, like 1 g carb)
2 T. chia seeds
1 tsp. powdered chlorella (basically it's the benefits of greens, in a powder form)
1 scoop of the Samozan (? forgot brand) powdered acai
About 1/2 cup of frozen fruit of choice--berries, or banana, or pineapple/mango--change it up!
Top it off with coconut water
Love it.0 -
For weight loss, keep the fruit at a minimum.
And why exactly is that?
I've successfully lost a significant amount of weight consuming 3 to 5 fruits a day.
OP: I like to freeze my bananas, blend it with milk and protein powder. It comes out with the consistency of a milkshake.0 -

But, but, bananas are one of the 5 things you must never eat if you want to lose belly fat! I know. I saw it in an advertisement.0 -
Good luck on the coffee habit, I'm still at two large cups a day (keeps others alive and in one piece).
My "smoothie" is as follows:
1 scoop Total Lean Vanilla
1 scoop Gluticor Max
1 cup skim milk
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup frozen strawberries0 -
I haven't tried that many yet, but this one was my favourite so far:
1 cup baby spinach
0.25 cup blueberries
0.25 cup raspberries
3 medium-large strawberries
1 tbsp plain greek yogurt
1 tbsp ground flax seed
0.25 cup coconut milk
palm full of small ice cubes
In fact, I'm probably going to make this for breakfast :happy:0 -
i use
1 cup frozen straberries,
1 cup baby spinach fresh
3 oz vanilla yogurt
1/2 cup fat free milk
1 scoop vanilla protein powder.
keeps me full for hours.0 -
I buy the frozen mixed fruit (no sugar ones), small banana, and add water to make my smoothie.0

i get the frozen mixed fruit that's made for smoothies (yoplait greek yogurt smoothie?) when it's on sale, or the off-brand at aldi's. i've made too many weird tasting smoothies myself to try again haha0

Wrong....fruit is great for you. The sugars are natural. I have lost weight and inches while eating at least 3-6 servings of fruit per day. Most of them in my smoothie. I use
1 banana
a bunch of berries (strawberries, blackberries, raspberries)
orange/ 2 clementines
kiwi
Oikos Vanilla non-fat yogurt
ice
Pretty much, whatever fruit I have in my house goes in. They always turn out amazing. I also add spinach or kale sometimes, but I prefer to just eat a salad and enjoy my smoothies seperately.0 -
One I've been using that I got out of a magazine. It's filling and gives you extra pep for the day.
1/2 cup almond milk
1/3 cup uncooked oats or plain oatmeal
1/2 apple
1 tablespoon peanut butter.
Add ice to desired consistency (usually 3 or 4 is fine)
On days I work out I'll add 1 tablespoon chia seeds and 1 scoop of chocolate flavored protein powder to it.
Ends up tasting like chocolate peanut butter goodness!0 -
Mine are super easy-
Use one premixed EAS AdvantEdge protein shake- 17g protein and only 100-110 cals. Comes in Strawberry, chocolate, or vanilla
Strawberry flavor with one cup of frozen sliced strawberries
Or vanilla flavor with 1 frozen banana. Add a cup of strawberries for extra thick and yummy
vanilla flavor with just about any frozen fruit- peaches are good
I have wanted to try the chocolate with either frozen banana or frozen dark cherries, but haven't tried them yet.
The strawberry with frozen strawberries is my fave. Tastes like frozen yogurt. If want it less tart, add a pkt of Truvia or other sweetner. And only 150 calories for an extra large cup. It is frequently my 'dessert' for the end of the day.0 -
I have allergies to soy and peanuts. Are there any protein powders/add ins that don't contain these? I have tried whey protein powder, but it gives it a gritty texture. Any suggestions?0

I just started doing green smoothies so my smoothies are slightly more amateur but seem to be doing the trick:
1.5 cups of water
1 banana
1 cup of mixed frozen fruit (No sugar added. Gives it a more frozen smoothie taste) Usually strawberries, pineapple, mango
2 tablespoons of flax seeds0 -
Frozen or fresh strawberries and pineapple
Vanilla or Strawberry Yogurt
Ice
Sherbert0 -
My basic breakfast smoothie is this:
Handful of baby spinach
1 small or 1/2 large carrot
1 fruit, either a small apple, pear or frozen strawberries
sometimes some frozen blueberries
2 big spoonfuls of plain greek yogurt
honey
1 spoonful of raw maca powder
1 spoonful of chia seeds
handful of old fashioned oats
In my Nutribullet I fill it to the line with soy milk, or appx 1 cup. I was using Coconut-Almond milk which tastes great, but I found I wasn't getting enough protein in my diet, so I switched over.
I love the combinations I've been putting together and through trial and error I'm discovering what tastes good! These keep me full until mid-morning when I have a light snack to hold me til dinner.0 -
To ICarla: The only whey protein powder that I've found that I like is Solgar's Whey to Go in the vanilla flavor. When blended in a good blender it's not gritty and has a good flavor.0
