Where do you find it best to do the C25K? Inside on Treadmill ? Outside Track? Outside Fitness Trail? Something Else?

Cant wait till it warms up here, I miss running outside so much, I feel like I am missing something when I cant run outside, I would run in the cold but I get sick pretty easily because I sweat so much.
  • I just finished W9D1 and I've done most of those. The treadmill is definitely easier in that it does some of the work for you and also keeps you at a constant pace without any effort on your part. When you run on a track or outdoors you have to keep your own pace. I struggled with that for a couple days but I adapted pretty quickly.

The first 5 or 6 weeks of the program I did on a treadmill at the gym. Then I joined the YMCA and had access to an indoor track, so I did the later weeks on that. I did W8D3 outside this Saturday on a cold, snowy morning. It was the most enjoyable day of the program so far. I even ran outside again on Sunday just for fun. It was cold (20 degrees) but still awesome. It's a totally different experience...in a good way.

Personally, I would recommend running outside if possible, especially if you plan to run races. Running on a treadmill is great, but it doesn't fully prepare you to run a race outside. I used the track to transition from treadmill to running my first 5K outside last weekend. (I did it in 34:56...not bad for someone who'd never run a mile before C25K!)

If I had to rank them in terms of enjoyment and challenge, I'd say: outside > track > treadmill

Thanks that's what I was thinking.. Treadmill seems easy however my big race will be outside in June so I think your right prepping outside is my best bet.. Thanks!

I am one of those people who cannot run on a treadmill period, my stride doesn't work or whatever, but I never feel like I can get the same workout. You don't really need a GPS or anything until your 6th week on c25K, since it is just intervals. But I have a route plotted out from GPS on my phone that I do mine on and I know how far I am running based on that. Also, I try to remember some marker at the end of every interval to judge myself against on subsequent runs.
