All Inclusive Holiday - Tunisia

In two weeks I will be embarking on my first ever package holiday. I am an inexperienced traveller and have had conflicting advice with regards to food choices. I intend to relax with my food choices a little as I'd like to have a bit of a treat, as I'll be on holiday after all. But I'd still like to be able to make healthy choices where I can. I am embarassed to admit that when faced with "all you can eat" type meals, something in my brain goes a little crazy and I feel the need to eat everything in sight in case I never eat again, therefore losing all control. I'm hoping that keeping myself aware of this will try and hold it back as much as I can.

My first question is, has anyone ever been to Tunisia? What kind of foods can I expect to find in an all inclusive buffet? Are there any particular things I should avoid or limit?

Secondly, I'd planned to fill up on salad and fruit, but after a google search and a chat with my doctor, I'm left confused. My doctor has advised that I avoid salad and fruit as it will have been washed in tap water and is likely to give me an upset stomach. However, I've read mixed accounts online from travellers who both have and haven't experienced any problems eating salad abroad. Is it really that common? I thought it was a good plan to try and stay in control a bit but the thought of being ill worries me a bit!

Thanks in advance for any help...

  • Where you going like?
I stayed in Hammamet , all inclusive in an iberostar hotel

Was kinda continental selection , some nights they did themes
Always had things like fish and potatos etc ... usually had a grill up where they cooked various meats and tuna etc etc

Any fruit I had was fine. Was mostly melon mind you if i recall.

Just dont listen to anybody outside the hotel ;)
Theyl try pretend they work there ... and that because theyre in your hotel if you come to there shop theyl give you discount.
Just trying to get your custom hah

Also wee boys running around selling jasmine etc etc , novelty wears off quite quick ;p. Give em a swift kick to the baws and i found they swiftly went a running ;p

I'm also staying in Hammamet in an Iberostar hotel....possibly the same one? It's called Saphir Palace.
I like the sound of the grilled meats, I'll look out for that! Not a fish fan, wish I was though because it's so healthy.
    Thanks for your advice! :D

If you are worried about fruit and veg being washed in tap water just stick to stuff that gets peeled.

That's a good idea...I guess they wash things like carrots before they peel them.
