I'm no runner, I'm doing C25k, so I can't classify myself as a runner... yet!

I am aware though that with cardio I need to be doing strength training to retain muscle mass. I was just wondering if anyone could advise me on any weight training to do alongside my C25k please? I'm going to hazard a guess that squats and lunges are out!

I appreciate your help, thank you in advance

Nope, you need to do plenty of squats/lunges to help with your leg strength.

Also throw some deadlifts in there for good measure. There's nothing wrong with being a strong runner

I woiuldn't call myself a runner, but I am someone who runs. ;) Since I had worked my way up to being able to run for a mile at a time, I found a 5K program that started with having you run a mile at a time. I'm up to 1.25-1.5 miles, 2-3 days a week with a .5 mile run in there another day aweek. I think next week I'm up to 1.75 miles for one of the runs. Any way, I am doing Madcow's 5x5 lifting program (skipping the accessory work). I squat 3 days a week, bench and do bent over rows 2 days a week and do military press and deaflifts one day a week. I also do a core specific workout (usually pilates) after my T & Th runs.
