p90x questions

I am thinking about doing p90x and was wondering what the program was like. I finished 90 days of ChaLEAN Extreme and had awesome results and I think I am ready for something a little more challenging now that I have the strength. I also am going to be doing Turbo Fire so If I decided to do p90x, I might do them together. So I had a few questions about p90x..
1. I know you can get a pull up bar for p90x but is it needed? I am thinking about getting one with it because I really want to challenge myself and I think I could actually do pull ups now.
2. What kind of plan is it? Is it every day for 90 days? Is there recovery days? Is it all strength training or is cardio also involved?
3. Do you suggest this program? and what have been some of your results?
I am really looking to gain more muscle. I have lost 21 inches while doing ChaLEAN Extreme and gained some awesome muscles but I am ready to further the definition in my body and obviously from the infomercials, p90x sounds like the way to go. I am only 5'2 and currently 119lbs but still have a lot of body fat to lose! The only reason I didn't do p90x in the first place is because I was not strong at all before ChaLEAN and knew there was no way I would make it. I finally have biceps, shoulders, and back muscles to give me enough strength to hold my own weight so I think I am ready for the challenge. Thanks in advance for your answers and insight. feel free to add me, i could always use extra support and I love motivating others

I did P90X and got great results. Didn't lose a lot of weight but lost inches for sure, got the advertised 6-pack, and got way stronger.
1. Yes, you will need a pull up bar/and or bands.
2. It is 6 days of workouts, 1 rest day. Each month ends with a "recovery" week which involves different workouts for that week. It is a mix of strength training, cardio, yoga/core work. Very nice mix.
3. I would definitely recommend this program. This will help you build lean muscle and become stronger than ever. It also works your core real well, and the Ab Ripper is the bomb!
That said, I would also suggest that if you do the program, try to stick pretty close to the recommended nutrition plan. You will need the necessary foods to build a stronger body.
It's a great program. Good luck!0 -
1. I recommend one of those iron gyms for pullups .. it hooks onto your door frame and there's no need to screw anything in or drill holes.
2. It's a 90 day plan. There is one rest day per week (optional stretch workout). And there's also a yoga day which is essentially the mid-week recovery workout (though it's pretty intense) ... There are also recovery weeks, one per phase.
3. Yes, I recommend it. See my profile for a progression photo of my 2 rounds of P90X (I did the Classic schedule).
Anyway it sounds like you'll do great!0 -
Agree with roadchic and ghanie. I bought/use a gold's gym pullup bar for the door way and it works great; less than $20 at Walmart. Also bought a 40 lb weight set (goes from 5 lbs to 30 lbs, I think) for the weights and a yoga block for when I first started out. P90X is a great mix of cardio/weights/core with rest days/recovery week built in. Love the program - starting week 11 today. I did not follow the nutrition plan (got the DVDs only from amazon), but used MFP to make sure I ate healthy and got plenty of protein on the days I did weights. So far so good - 11 lbs lost in 10 weeks, plus inches everywhere and the start of a beautiful 6-pack! Next up for me is Insanity!0

I'm on day 9 of Insanity and I love it! It's a nice change from the X because it's so fast paced, the workout seems to fly by and before you know it you've been reduced to a puddle of sweat on the floor! It's fantastic. BTW, congrats on doing P90X, I'm sure you will have that 6-pack real soon!0 -
I am currently in Week 8 of p90x and am considering purchasing Turbo Fire to stack with it in a second round of p90x starting in August!0

Im on week 6 of p90x and i love the results thus far, it is hard in the beginning but by week 3 i was moving right along with them.... i cant wait to start it again and do the lean version this next time, im also thinking of getting Insanity after this round and do it before i start round 2 of p90x.... just not sure yet!!! I think you will enjoy the program, sometimes it is hard to stick to the everyday workouts (ive missed a day here or there due to holidays or working double shifts) but for the most part i do it everyday and miss it on the days i dont get to do it!!! You will need the bar or bands just depending on which you prefer to use (i use both)!!!0

My husband and I are on week 5 and we are loving it. I have lost several inches already and feel the difference. I haven't lost any weight but my body has changed, my clothes are all too big now
We have missed a day here and there but we just jump right back in (sometimes life does get in the way). I think you will really like it! We have both a pull up bar and use the band. Good Luck!!

We completed one round of P90X and started right away with our 2nd round. We borrowed Insanity from another couple (it was kicking their butt). So, we've incorporated a couple of the Insanity workouts into the cardio days of P90X. Also, I am doing some double workout days to really get in the cardio and to shed more fat.0 -
I ordered P90X over last weekend should be here any day now..... I'm pumped... Can't wait to push play0
