My wife got a Polar F7 that she uses, its around $100, she really likes it0

I like my polar ft7 (around $85 on ebay) but I've read good things about the polar F6 too which is a little less.0

 I just ordered the Polar f6 on Amazon for $85 includes free shipping. I did a lot of research and found that one has great reviews.0

I've looked at a few myself.
A Mio Motiva - which did not require a chest heart rate monitor. Your heart rate was monitored by you pressing two buttons on the watch. Myself I found it hard to get a heart rate so i returned it.
Garmin Forerunner 405 - Found the constant heart rate monitoring great. Could not get it to record calories, turns out it does not use your heart rate to track calories but uses the GPS for speed and distance to calculate calories. THus is does not work indoors. This is not what I wanted so I am returning it.
Adidas micoach (170) - I had a little running store by my office so I went in to see what they had. I explained what I was looking for ie heart rate monitor, calorie count, that i was looking at stationary biking indoors and this is what he pointed me to. Comes with a chest heart rate monitor a shoe pod, and the unit. Apparently there was a great review of this unit in our paper last week. Once you setup your workouts it is supposed to tell you to pick up your pace so that you are in a target heart range. I hooked it up to me around the office for a few minutes and the data it gives me is fantastic but I have not tested it through a full workout but so far it does exactly what I need it to. As I have not used it much yet I've included a link of a guy that did a review for it when it first came out. (http://sisu.me/?p=24)
My advise hit a running room or something like that and tell them what you are looking for. THey test these units out all the time. The guy that I was talking to was pretty frank with what was good and bad with all the units and he had nothing but good to say about the micoach. I am hoping it lives up to his recommendations.0 -
I have the polar f6 or something like that.. it was under $100 and works great .. just cant directly link it to the computer but I easily put the same stats in manually so it was worth being affordable!0

I have the polar FT7. I love it. It can connect to the computer and you can keep track of your workouts on the polar website.0

I've got an Oregon Scientific SE300 for $75 from amazon. Tons of features that I haven't even BEGUN to explore but works great with what I've figured out so far. it's a great HRM!0

Anything by Polar is stellar (they have a great warranty procedure so make sure you register your product). Whatever you buy, make sure it has a chest strap, otherwise it is pretty much useless.0

Just a follow up on the Adidas micoach.
Absolutely loving it. The chest strap is comfortable, the unit picks up the foot pod and the strap quickly and easily.
Like others have mentioned with the polars you connect it up to the PC and it gives you a fantastic graph of your heart rate and calories burnt. Also measures strides/distance.
For the training aspect I love the fact that it will tell you to speed up / slow down to reach your target heart rate. It also tells you how far along you are in your routing. When you first sign on to the website it will ask you your goals so it will automatically setup workouts for you. Unfortunately I am not able to do the assesment work out as I have a torn acl right now so can't run etc to fine tune the HR's. That being said you can create your own custom workouts which works great for my stationary bike so I can do intervals on it to really get my heart pumping all the while being encouraged by my virtual trainer.
So in my opinion, at around 170 the Adidas micoach definitly worth the money.0 -
I have a Polar F6 and I absolutely love it. It was around $100. I got it from ****'s Sports. It's comfortable and easy to use. I was already a pro at using it the second day I got it. It will track your heart rate, calories burned, and exercise time. And, if you want (I turn this feature off, because it gets a little annoying), it will help you keep your heart rate in your appropriate heart rate zone. It'll either beep fast or slow, warning you if your going over your maximum heart limit or under. Really cool.0

Oh darn. I wish I had gotten the FT7 now. I didn't know it hooked up to a computer. Oh well.0 -
I just bought a polar f6 from sears.com. It was on sale and I only paid $58 for it plus shipping of like $6. I love it so far!0

What type of exercise are you going to do while wearing your HRM? That could make a difference in the type you buy. I have a Polar F6 and love it. My only exercise is swimming and wear my HRM w/chestrap for every workout and haven't had a problem yet. If you are looking for something to give you the basics like heart rate, heart rate range, and calories burned, then the Polar F6 is great. There aren't a ton of features to navigate through and it is simple to use.
I bought mine from heartratemonitorsusa.com for $88. However, if and when the batteries need to be changed, DO NOT take it to your jeweler! This will void the warranty from Polar and the chest strap and/or watch will no longer be guaranteed waterproof. You MUST send the HRM back to Polar for battery issues to guarantee it will remain waterproof. This will save you money in the long run.0
