I didn't lose a lb. Actually gained a few, bc I laid on the couch while my boyfriend hand fed me pizza.

I gain weight after surgery because I spend my time horizontal and screaming "I'm dying, I'm dying" until someone brings me tasty food. Good times.

I didn't lose any weight with any of my major surgeries. I gained after having part of my thyroid removed. I think I also gained a bit after my hysterectomy. After the last one surgery, a gallbladder removal gone haywire, I didn't gain or lose. I didn't move much and I didn't eat much. But I did exchange some of my lean body mass for fat mass. :-(

I lost a lot of weight after surgery once. I was four and I was so sick I couldn't eat for a while.
Sorry, that's not very applicable is it.

I guess it depends on the surgery type.

About half a stone but I was in deep stress and depression after, so I think that was more of the reason.

I gained weight because the person taking care of me only ate fast food and had no clue what a vegetable was. I was never so happy to see a veggie a week later...

I lost a couple of lbs while I was not allowed to do any lifting, which would have all been muscle glycogen. I may have put on a little fat too, didn't notice specifically. Then, after I started lifting again, I put the muscle glycogen lbs on again.

What affected me more was that the amount I could lift went down due to taking a whole month off. Thankfully, I managed to catch up again in about 2-3 weeks and now I'm lifting heavier than I was pre-surgery.

I've also had 2 c-sections, lost weight after those prior to resuming any kind of exercise or following any diet apart from the "make enough milk for the baby" diet - but that would be due to not being pregnant and breastfeeding instead. Also, it's kind of not really relevant to any other kind of surgery....

I'm not sure my surgery counts as it was a tonsillectomy and losing weight in the recovery from that procedure is pretty normal as swallowing food HURTS like mad. But yeah, I lost 15lbs in the two to three weeks it took for me to get back onto solid foods. I lived on noodles in chicken broth, gatorade and pudding...

ETA: If anyone's thinking of a tonsillectomy for weight loss (lol) keep in mind I gained the majority of that 15lbs back pretty quickly!!

I had brain surgery just over 4 weeks ago. I lost some weight in the hospital when I was in there not eating much the first few days. However, now I am up because I am still taking narcotics which aren't allowing me to poop enough! Working on weaning myself so I can be regular again. I am sure I will be back down pretty quickly once I poop more. Sorry for being gross.

I had surgery on feb 20th and I lost alittle over a pound a week during recovery...sitting in the recliner. I was amazed.... I made sure I logged everything and kept my intake around 1700 and drink your water. From day before surgery and until now... lost 7 pounds(been 4 weeks as of today).

I had both knees replaced last winter, one in Jan and one in Feb of 2012, so I was out of work and not doing much exercise for about 4 months and I lost 45 pounds. I wasn't counting calories, but I did try to make sure that I was eating fairly healthy meals and not just junk.

I've had 3 surgeries. One was a c-section (I lost about 30 pounds including an almost 8 pound baby ).

Two ankle surgeries. With the first ankle surgery (total ankle reconstruction) I lost a good bit of weight in the 6 months following the surgery just from using crutches all the time and going to physical therapy. Then when I was able to get back to my previous activity level, I lost most of the rest of the weight I had gained because of injury. Immediately after surgery I was on delauded and have no clue about weight loss or gain though I suspect I lost some weight because I was pretty out of my mind on the drugs and only drank apple juice and didn't really eat for a couple weeks).

My second ankle surgery, I was ambulatory immediately and careful with my diet because I was trying to lose weight. I continued losing weight.

I think it depends on the surgery and what you do after it.
