Muscle pull...push through or give it a day?

I think I pulled my groin/inner thigh muscle at the gym last night. Being an athlete all my life, I know what a workout burn vs a muscle pull feels like and this is definitely the latter. Usually I alternate working out on the treadmill and the elliptical with some strength training and today is an elliptical day...my question is should I give it a day? I really don't want to but I don't want to make it worse. Or is elliptical low impact enough that I shouldn't injure it more? Please help ! :)

I would rest it up if I were you, maybe just add in a walk instead if you would still like to get some activity in :)

REST, no sense in making it worse for later days.

THIS! Rest until it feels better.

Or just upper body since it's your lower body that's injured!

Go and do upper body weight training. Don't waste a day that you were planning to workout. Modify and keep going.

Give it time. You know nothing about me but trust me on this. I was psyched to get into the gym, hit it hard and get to where I wanted to be..... 3 hernias repaired and I went back too soon (Even went back to work too soon). Now 6 months later I am still hurt and healing...... do I want to go back to the gym and hit it hard? You bet! Would I already be doing that if I gave myself a rest period? Most likely.
If you hurt yourself more by not resting you might end up on the sidelines for longer then you ever wanted.

BTW your coat looks nice and shiny.

depending on the severity you might be waiting more than a day, groin pulls can take a week or two to repair if bad, and can be an early sign of a hernia so be careful!!!

Thanks guys :) I think I'll take a combination of your advice... I'll go to the gym and work on upper body. I'm also going to talk to the trainer that I know there and see if she thinks a light walk on the treadmill in addition to upper body would be ok.

I think just showing up the gym, even if I can't do a whole lot, will still be a mental boost. I'll get really frustrated staying home when I planned on going.

Good call. Just getting up from my couch and heading to the gym is almost enough for me. However, I've been out for 10 days now because of this really bad chest congestion :( I am losing weight but feel so lethargic and like ****!

Ugh I hate that. Chest congestion is the worst. Keep your head up! You'll be back in the gym in no time!

Upper body strength day....yes.....but you really should rest your groin. Cardio is not worth the risk of injury.
