Excessive exercise question.

Next week, my husband and I are going on our honeymoon. We'll be skiing for 3 days in a row, for about 6-7 hours a day. We generally eat a big/high protein breakfast, no lunch, and an earlier dinner.

My daily calorie goal is 1700, with an active exercise routine (doing C25k), and not eating back calories burned.

So here's my question: on days when you do a lot or an excessive amount of exercise (marathons, for example), do you not worry as much about calorie intake? Or do you still log, and just eat back the difference between your normal exercise and your excessive exercise?

You're on your honey moon! Enjoy that and don't worry about your food.

In all honesty I don't log when I go on vacation. I'm just conscious of what I eat.

Sounds like fun. You may want to provide a bit more detail on your overall fitness goals and current program. For example, do you do cardio, a bit of cardio and strength training, are you losing weight, building lean muscle, maintaining, etc.?

Maybe some folks who ski can tell you from their experience how they log food/exercise. The only thing I would be worried is staying hydrated, heh! But I'm sure you have that figured out.

Congratulations on your marriage! Hope you have a fun honeymoon!

    Thanks!

Right now I'm doing C25K 5 days a week, just to lose weight. I plan to reintroduce weights later down the road a bit.

Skiing burns a ton of calories, but I don't want to compensate by eating with wild abandon (that's what got me in this mess to begin with!). I'm trying to go into it with a plan, so that even if I deviate a bit - maybe by having a drink or dessert - it won't be the end of the world.
  • I run. A lot. A lot lot. (70-80 miles per week) in addition to swimming and biking...generally working out about 25 hours per week. Hey, you said excessive excercise....

Now, you know what I do when I go on vacation? I enjoy my time, eat whatever I like, and be happy. Instead of making food the focus of the vacation, make having a good time the focus. If that means dinner, drinks, and two desserts? Do it. Why, because its vacation!!!! The week after is back to the grind of counting every calorie, weighing grams of food, hitting your numbers, and so on. Make the vacation, especially your honeymoon, be about what matters.

The more I think about it, the more you all are right. I'll be 'mindful' but not hypervigilant like I am now.
