Who I am

Good morning to all in MFP. Who am I??? I'm still working on that question, but I'll try.
I am 68 years young and learned that I'm not supper woman, and my body does wear out....I have two wonderful/beautiful grand children that have grown up way too fast...I'm blessed with a loving husband whose body wore out before mine did...and I'm super blessed to have an 88 year old mother who is still in basic good health. God and Church comes first in my life and then my family, both Church and natural. I am perfectly happy with all of the above!
Now for the boring stuff....For almost all of my life I was a size 6 to 8. Then 2 or 3 years ago I had a colon resection (my very first clue that my body was going), and developed a very rare kidney disease. The name of it is too long and hard to pronounce, so I don't even try. Bottom line is I lost 65% kidney function in about 3 weeks. To stop the progression of the disease I was put on heavy duty steroids for about 6 months. Did I tell you they forgot to mention that I would put on 50 lbs and become a monster ankle biter on steroids (think of a small female dog)....? Good news is I am now stable and have been for almost a year now. Bad news is I still have the extra 50 lbs. And to add insult to injury, I am on a low potassium diet....do you know that even my coffee has 187 mg of potassium in a 5oz cup! ! ?? and I need at least 2 8oz cups to start my day????
OK, now for the serious stuff. A low potassium diet is not a friendly diet for losing weight to say the least. And the information on the potassium content of food is almost non existent. I would love to find a group or two of folks with the same problem who have been able to take what resources that are out there and compile a list of real potassium content and share the resources and data.
Hope you all have a good day today.

I'm so sorry for your painful experience! I can't imagine being on a low potassium diet. A lot of healthy foods are high in potassium. I love sweet potatoes and they are loaded with it. I'm a coffee drinker too, so I feel your pain.0

Hi fablevins. Oh don't worry about me...I'm not doing without my coffee! ! I just include them to the total. Where I got in trouble was I got so careful of the potassium that I wasn't getting enough. That's really why I joined MFP, so I could track them better. But it's not working...I don't think there's anymore info in the data base than I've found in the FDA data base....and it's in a pdf file, so it's a lot easier to use than the data base here. I may just have to keep my own diary in a spread sheet. I've done it that way before
I love all the high potassium foods too, and I love sweet potatoes. We used to bake them in the microwave and put Smart Balance on them and enjoy. If they are good sweet one, it's like eating desert! !
So what are your goals?0
