I purchased a $30 hrm at Walmart. The first time I used it, JM 30 day shred gave me over 300 cals burned. Lately when I'm using it, it barely gives me 100 burned , even after moving up to level 2 . 30 min after my workout it really racked up the calories burned What is going on? Should I count the calories burned after my workout? Should I invest in a quality hrm? If so, any suggestions on a brand you like?

Did you check battery? I know, stupid question but had to ask.
I personally have a Polar ft7 and LOOOOOVVEEE it! This is my second one. My first one took a walk somewhere, some how so i replaced it. Besides that hiccup I've never had a problem with it.

From what I read here I see most ppl say polar or Timex

I would, I have a Polar FT4, it's been very good for me. Does yours have a chest strap?

I just bought a HRM and I am finding it really helps me push harder in my workouts... I bought a Wahoo. Yes, it sounds silly! It's bluetooth enabled, only has a chest strap (no watch) and has an app on my iPod5 which tracks everything. I've only had it 2 wks, but I like it so far. I even wear it playing volleyball and it accurately tracks to the app from far away. It's the only one I have experience with, so I'd say get more opinions and check out some online reviews.

I have checked the battery and it seems to be working fine. All of the other features are working fine. It is a wrist kind . Is a chest strap better?

Chest strap tends to be more accurate.

Chest strap is definitely better. The watch only models only have whatever your heart rate was last time you touched the watch or took a reading - chest strap monitors the whole time.

I've got a New Balance N4 - $70 at Target, less online. The Polars are very popular too. Shop around for a deal - it will likely cost more than the wrist only model, but it's worth it.
