Why do I crave fat?

Since starting to eat healthy and exercise daily I've found that my cravings have shifted from beef, cheese and chocolate to olives, peanut butter and avocado. I know these are better fats, but I crave them all the time and in abundance but don't know why. Olives seem to supress the meat cravings and peanut butter the chocolate and avocados supress both cheese and chocolate cravings. I'm wondering if there might be some underlying reason for the excess fat craving beside me just wanting the taste.

  • It might be the theory that the body craves what it needs... I know that theory is a little bit of a myth, but usually when people start dieting they shift from eating typically high fat foods to foods not as high in fat and maybe your body isn't used to less fat in your diet yet! :)

We do need fats in our diet so craving good fats is better than anything!

Because evolution has not had time to catch up to the recent overabundance of food. Food used to be scarce, so we're programmed to seek out foods with higher calories--like fat and sugar--to help us not waste away.

Cravings change continually.......maybe it wasn't the fat per se, maybe it was the olives, pb and avocado. Right now I can't get enough garlic, onion and herbs.....I put these in just about everything, oh and eggs, can't get enough right now. I also know that this will change and for me it seems season related.
