I've have been having achy joints lately- particularly my shoulders. Now my knee started to ache a bit yesterday too. It comes and goes.......... I have never been athletic and have never lifted or jogged for more than 2 weeks at a time and I have only been about 30 pounds overweight TOPS.....Is this normal or should I pay an outrageous co-pay and see if somethings wrong. If it were PAIN I would go but if this is normal for anyone who is just starting to become regular with exercise I don't want to pay for the Dr to send me to a specialist for the specialist to say it's normal.

I am 166 pounds and 5'5" and I'm 39 years old- I haven't been lifting large amounts and I won't do an exercise if I know the form in bad.....can you experts give me your opinions Por favor?

thank you much!

Try a glucosamine supplement, I used to have very achy joints when I was working 2 jobs and was on my feet all the time. Taking those really helped me.

get advice from a physio or a doctor who understands about sports medicine. Don't go to the kind of doctor who will just tell you to rest without doing much to find out the cause of the pain. It's really hard to give advice about this over the internet. Some kinds of pains you push through with exercise, other kinds you need to rest and recover. If you're not experienced with exercise, it's hard to know the difference. It could be as simple as your joints not being used to exercise, while some joint pains are signs of injury or a medical issue... hence seeing a physio or doc who knows sports medicine for advice.

The aches will likely work themselves out over time. It's usually caused by inflammation but once the muscles surrounding the joints get stronger you should feel better. If not, THEN go see the doc. Give it a couple of months...as long as it doesn't get significantly worse in the mean time.

Since you mentioned that you're just starting to become regular with your exercising, I think it's probably just the normal sort of achiness you get doing new things with muscles that aren't accustomed. Definitely if it becomes pain, head to your GP like you said.

I've had some success with glucosamine / chondrotine supplements for joint pain. Overall aches probably respond better to plain old pain relievers though.

I'm exercising 5/6 days a week one of them being yoga. Except for this week I've been awfully lazy :embarassed: thus far.

A nurse that I know said to also try the Glucosamine too so I think I will try that and give it a month or so.
    Also I forgot I'm 163 now (whoot!!)
Thanks for all of your input. If things don't improve I will look to a sports medicine MD. :flowerforyou:

My shoulders hurt a lot when I started yoga. And my knees hurt from general exercise (squats and the like).

Thank you it's good to know that it may just be this- I'm super paranoid that I may have some sort of injury that will stop me from working out all together- that would be the worst since this is the first time that I've stuck with working out.....so hopefully this is my case as well.

    thank you :flowerforyou:
