Another day. ...another kind of junk in the break room.

So yesterday in the break room at my job there were some delectable looking donuts available for ravishing, which I declined, after thinking about indulging for quite some time, and even though I accidentally dropped the lunch I brought from home and was left without food for hours. Today, there is cake. Half chocolate half vanilla with buttermilk frosting. It practically had my name tattooed across it. I sat in the break room, alone (it would have been better if someone else had been in there, because people at work know I'm losing weight/eating healthy), eying the pre-cut slices for what I would say was at least 10 minutes. I narrowed down to the biggest slice with the most frosting. I even picked up the plate a few times. Grabbed a fork - the whole nine. But finally, I walked out, with a light Babybel cheese and a Fuji apple instead. Now, don't get me wrong, I still eat sweets - I had a piece of Lindt chocolate (supplied by my work, of course) yesterday, but I also had the nutritional info for that, and knew exactly what I was getting into with it. Plus, cake, donuts, these are foods I have abused in the past, where as a fancy piece of chocolate is not something I really have issues with. Peanut M&M's? Yes. Lindt Connaisseurs? No. Does anyone else have drama like this? What is it about certain foods that are so hard to deal with? And please don't misunderstand, I am no super healthy eater - but I try to keep it mostly healthy, and when I REALLY want something, I make sure I can account for what I'm doing (calorically speaking). Sometimes when I don't know the nutritional content of food it gives me this weird anxiety. I don't know, I guess I'm just venting, because the nonstop junk food in the work place scenario is getting kind of old to me. Hopefully someone else can relate.
Then again. ...maybe I should have just eaten the damn cake.

last night.... I ate the damn cake. I don't feel guilty about it. But I will tell you that after I ate it, I definitely felt more cravings for other various crap. Next time, I'll *try* not to eat the cake. But INDULGING every once in a while is good for the soul!0 -
I'm sorry! I'm one of those people who sends my husband to work with leftover cake from birthdays/parties just so that I'm not tempted by it in my house. I never really thought about those people who are trying to eat better in the workplace and by helping myself, I might be hindering them. :<
I'm a sucker for cake. I can't resist frosted cake, even though afterward it makes me feel dizzy...0 -
It just sucks because I make sure I don't keep junk in my house, I make good decisions when I got out to eat, etc, and it just seems like the moment I get to work, everything I've been trying to avoid is right there in my face.0

My co-worker informs me every time he refills the M&M dispenser which kind of M&Ms he has put in there and that I need to help myself.
he also tells me what is in his cabinet in his office and when he has brought chocolate in and which cookies he will bring in tomorrow and of course help myself! There is always twizzlers in there too.
I'm not really tempted most times.. but some days.. I have to go for a walk to get the image out of my head. LOL0 -
I work in fast food. I'm around junk 6 days a week. That's my biggest hurdle.0

I would high five him in the face. ...just sayin'.0 -

That REALLY sucks. ...sorry.0 -
Oh that is a bummer~ so maybe you should bring in a bag of baby carrots or something healthy and put it in the breakroom. There should be more to eat at work then just junk. varity is the spice of life. A little treat now and then is ok but more then that can make the difference between your jeans fitting great or so so.0

First off... congrats on not eating the cake! :drinker:
I can so relate to the picking up the plate and fork, putting it back down, picking it back up.... I've had quite a few moments like those. Or I will stare longingly into the vending machines, money in hand, ready to drop in the change, only to walk away.... and then return minutes later to do it all again.
So yes, I have those moments. A lot. Does it get easier? ...ummm... well... not for me... but I do have to say, when I am able to pass something up, especially after agonizing over it, I feel pretty darn good about myself! :flowerforyou:0 -
ROFL I work in a realtor's office full of women who love to bake or bring food for everyone... very often! It's great and makes for an awesome place to work, but it's a little trying on days where they bring in Krispy Kreme doughnuts...
Anyhow here is how I see it... don't be so hard on yourself if you're otherwise working on your goals for eating. The good thing about dieting simply to loose weight is that you are ALWAYS contributing to your goal. The only concern is how quickly you want to reach your goal, but all progress results in physical improvement and you will keep looking and feeling better. Also, once you reach your end goals you won't really care how long it took.0 -
I ate a whole box of Toffefey last night... sometimes we just can't help it!0

First of all, kudos to you for opting to pass on junk food both times! That takes a lot of will power.
The description of you picking up a plate, and putting it back down trying to decide what to do is a situation I have found myself in many times.
My biggest downfall is ice cream. I love it - I crave it. I've had it in the past week, but like you it's a matter of making room and ensuring the nutritional info is there.
I went to a family dinner last week, and which everyone ate cake, I saved my carrot salad for dessert.0
