Hi there,
I generally eat healthy. At the moment I have given up Carbs for lent (literally just a thing me and my friends are doing - not particularly a dieting technique!) I do a 45 min spin class 3-5 times a week and have done for the last 2 months. Im not loosing anything!
I have seen a personal trainer at the gym who has suggested I vary my exercise but the problem is I hate hate hate the gym. 2 months ago you wouldn't catch me anywhere near the place but I have really got into my spin classes - which is a miracle within itself!
Anyone got any tips? I have finally got my head screwed on and I feel motivated to loose weight and its so disappointing to see minimal results.

Hi charles,
What's your current diet look like (I know you have cut carbs but I'm curious as to the rest of your intake).0 -
Typical day
- Scrambled egg/ omelette or bowl of fruit (strawberries/raspberries/bananna) for breakfast with coffee (skimmed milk)
- Tinned mackeral/ chicken with salad leaves. Apple/Kiwi for lunch
- raw celery/ carrot for mid afternoon snack.
- Steak/Chicken breast/ Salmon fillet with spinach, peas, broccoli or something like a chilli/mousakka/ lasagne with no pasta
Around 2/3 days a week I have around 3 squares of dark chocolate if its circulating the office at work just to keep the cravings at bay!0 -
Weekends are a bit crap for me - im a fan of red wine which bumps up my calories alot I know! But I was doing the same before I started spinning and didn't put anything on. Surly even if I was eating the same as I was before I should loose weight from the extra exercise regardless?0

Technically you are still having carbs fruit especially bananas , vegetables like carrots and potatoes and chocolate have plenty of carbs. Better reference is that you are eating low carb. It takes time for your body to adjust to a change in diet. My question is are you drinking enough water ? 1/2 your body weight in ounces? How much meat /fish are you eating? You might want to look at your portion sizes .0

Nicole asked something I was going to ask after your reply. Curious as to your portion sizes.0

I would suggest you try a yoga class. You can even do online classes (dailyburn.com is what I use) so you can do it in your living room. That way you won't be at the gym, and you'll get a different type of workout. It's also great for keeping you relaxed. I love doing an hour of yoga right before bed.0

You can't out exercise a bad diet. Trust me, I've tried. I teach spin class, and have for many years. You get out of it what you put into it, but it doesn't give you a blank check to eat as much as you like. I really believed that my level of activity made it okay for me to eat a little extra, and I figured my lack of weight loss must be because of my ________ (insert whatever your favotie excuse is here). Well, guess what, when I started seriously evaluating ,my diet in addition to exercising I dropped weight. Is it harder with a ________ problem, sure, but anything worth having is worth working for.
Good luck.0 -
If you like your spin class, keep at it. I'm sure adding something else would help, but if you don't enjoy it, you won't do it.0

Hi Nicole - as I said, the whole no carbs thing isn't really anything to do with my diet, just happened to coincide. I am well aware that total no carbs means no veg/fruit/choc etc - but since its not something I'm looking to carry on so just disregard that. I have cut out rice/bread/potato/pasta/flour etc. Simple carbs.
I drink plenty of water - that is one thing I have always been good at. I eat meat or fish every day. The whole portion thing did come into my mind so I have started eating all my meals from the same bowl (average cereal bowl size). Typically I will have one portion of meat ( 1 chicken breast, salmon fillet or steak) then fill the rest of my plate with green veg.0 -
Try an at home workout video like Insanity or 30 day Shred. no gym involved.0

I would love to but you should see the size of my house! One of those rooms were you have to navigate around a half open door because the sofa is pushed up against it. I think I have made my peace with the gym - I hate it, but i'v paid for the membership so I'm going to stick with it. No one said this was easy! Haha0 -
Good Girl! Stick with it !! You will feel so much better!!0
