Painful foot???

Went to gym Wednesday, all good there (well except the shoulder thing and BB squats)

Anyway, I had a pain down my left leg, I didn't think much of it, but by Thursday late afternoon I had a pain on the bottom of my foot. right where the heel is. It feels like a muscular pain (if that makes sense) I can "feel" it when I walk and it sort of sends a shoot pain up my leg (but not constantly)

Any ideas what this could be, I have never had it before.

  • Could be plantar faciitis maybe

Achilles tendon strain? Try heating the back of your leg and heel with warm pack (or shower/bath) and slowly stretching.

    http://sportsmedicine.about.com/od/flexibilityandstretching/qt/Achilles_Stretch.htm

Do several of these holding for at least count of 15. Don't stretch beyond comfort or slight pulling sensation.
Do them a few times each day.
If it doesn't help then the problem is something else.
  • Probably should check with your doctor to be sure .... but yes, it could be plantar faciitis. I have had it in my left foot for about the past year or so, and it can be pretty painful at times. The mornings are the worst! If your doctor confirms that you do have plantar faciitis, there are stretches you can do to help. And .... ice your foot after you workout. I know - cold feet = yuck!! - but it really does help. I ice my foot after I walk or run (treadmill or pavement, either way), and it does help ease the pain for the next morning.

With plantar faciitis, though, I'm not sure about the leg pain you spoke of. I don't have that. Just heel pain.

Good luck! Hope it feels better soon.

Sounds like a strain or DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness). Usually you can just let it run its course. If it persists too much longer, get a sports doctor to check it out.

    Thank you everyone.

I have never had this before it is such a peculiar sensation. Sort of like a bruise-ish sensation but not quite LOL. It is right on the bottom of my foot so whenever I put my foot on the floor I can feel it.

Likely Pantar Faciitis. I am recovering from it now- going to physical therapy. It's most common in people with either really high arches or very low arches. I got it from all of the jumping in 30DS combined with running.
If you have pain in your heal first thing in the morning when you get out of bed I can tell you almost 100% thats what you have.
Mine was really bad so I went to a podiatrist. Advil and stretching helps (look on youtube for PT stretches).
You can prevent it in the future by lots of stretching and getting running shoes with proper arch support.
If you think it is PT feel free to message me for any other questions/ info.

Yes a bruised heal feeling- thats exactly how mine felt. I was afraid I fractured something. The dr took an x-ray and also saw a very small heal spur. Heal spurs are common with people who are at risk for PT.

Thank you so much for that.

Yes it was worse this morning than it was yesterday, but not as much now. I have got some really good running shoes, but when you mentioned the jumping, I had done an at home workout which had a lot of jumping and I was not wearing my trainers so perhaps that is what has done it maybe.

This is exactly what I did. I had been running with my sneakers on and doing 30DS for a couple of weeks. One night I had the brilliant idea to do 30DS (which has lots of jumping) without my shoes on. The next day I had the pain. I though I could just walk it off but it got worse. It can take months to recover from, so take it easy. I hope you don't have it as bad as I did/do.

If it gets painful, freeze a water bottle, then put it on the floor and roll it under the arch of your foot. This helped me a lot.

I echo what they said - if worse in the morning but gets better a while after then worse again the next morning that is what I would say it is. Try Dr Scholl's heal pain inserts. For me they got rid of my pain after a couple of weeks.
