I think it's a ladies' support garment for the breasts, but with an extra h on the end for some reason.... maybe a marketing ploy...?

Okay, here is what I think you all are saying. . . first off I need to lose fat and I am overweight by 24 lbs. That said, I need to eat at a deficit and lift in order to avoid losing muscle while losing fat. I will have a tad bit of muscle gain at this time, but not much bc I am at a deficit with calories.

Once the fat starts to get at a reasonable rate ( I guess I will know when I have hit that based on looks) then I can increase my calorie intake and lift heavier and focus on muscle building. At this time I will be able to build the muscle which will burn more fat, is this correct?

I had always thought I needed to get near goal weight first before lifting. I think I had it wrong.

you did. Lift heavy NOW while in a deficit...it will help you retain what muscle you do have...and you will look better as you reduce your body fat.

me before...started at age 40, and am now 41

Very much a noob in the muscle gaining game, I'm a fresh two weeks in on SL 5x5. I'm already kinda bulky, on a calorie deficit ~1450+ exercise kcals. Won't my 3 days of cardio and 3 days SLs eventually reveal a "toned"appearance, broz (MN accent)? Last time i checked my LBM was around 105#, I'm currently #162 and have a large frame in my upper body. 5'4"

You can't bulk on a deficit.

Your muscles are retaining water for muscle repair. It makes the muscles look swollen, but it will go away for the most part. You might gain a few ounces of muscle as a newbie but you will not get bulky if you're eating at a deficit. You're probably seeing a combination of water and the fat that's still on top of the muscle. As you lean out you'll preserve the muscle and lose the fat, which will make sure you get the body you want when you get to your goal.
  • I used to be a cardio maniac but added heavy weights within the last three months. I haven't lost any pounds per se but my body composition is a lot different, in a GREAT way!

Just wondering, ive seen a lot of comments that are just RIDICULOUS!!! People who think they lift giving other people ****ty advice like "if you wanna TONE up just do high reps" or like you can bulk up and lose fat at the same time... Who ****ing liftss??????

    Funny.

I'm on here all the time.

    I never see these comments.

It's usually LIFT HEAVY. It's practically a mantra around here.

Not that I disagree with it.

really??? the reason i hardly ever comment is cause all i see is dumb people saying dumb ****... I guess i gotta come in on mondays.. Chest day brah:laugh:

    Forgot abs brah!

    Don't forget the abs!!

I *only* exercise my abs so that my ab muscles will get large enough to show through my belly fat.

Lifter here! There are lots out there who take it seriously, I just don't think you've seen them yet

I really hate those BS myths about toning and low weight and high reps etc. I see it quite often, however, slowly but surely things are changing and people are realising that you can lift heavy and not end up like Arnie!

Well looking like arnie would be a dream come true for me!

Yes but you have to train and eat for it, it doesn't just happen from lifting heavy. As a male you're at an advantage but women especially seem to think they will bulk up from their heavy weights, when they don't even have the right hormones for it, not to mention how many are actually eating in a surplus?

I think you missed the part about taking a crap ton of steroids too.
