So I'm hoping that being mindful is enough.
I quit last time I was here. I was frustrated with guess-timation, especially when I'm not big on large calorie deficits.
If I'm going to make it, its gonna be by adding 200 calorie buffer everyday, working with what is, and being mindful.
A few times I wanted to eat since yesterday when I started, but thought "Naw, its not worth it", so the simple act of mindfulness does help. But if I want to eat regardless, there's nothing I can do, like last night when I took in 1300 (thank heavens I burned 1000 in exercise), and I'm not going to guilt myself.
Yep, the new formula is to work with what is, and plan around it.
Maybe someday "what is" will involve less sugar intake, less pesticides, and not over-stuffing myself, because mindfulness should alone change my habits over time. I mean, if you realize that sugar has you addicted, you might choose something else because you took the time to be mindful about it.
Let's see if my experiment works. And add me if you are looking for more people to share stories and blogs with I like being heard and I will hear you.

Over 40 also but I am struggling because I gained 20 pounds in the last 2 years because of 3 back surgeries. The last one being spinal fusion. I'm working out but having to take it really slow. It's hard for me because I was always active before back problems and never really had to think about what I ate. Now I'm having to practically starve and exercise like a mad person to get it off. I have several friends and family who are in the same boat that you are. My sister finally gave in to gastric bypass and now she struggles to keep the weight on. It was a bad decision for her but it's too late for regrets. You will do well!!! Keep your head up!!!:flowerforyou:0

I have been there... a nightly routine of eating at least another meals(big meal) worth of calories. I've quit a hundred times also, but here I am and every day counts. Weight loss is a struggle, but the payoff is huge. Feel free to add me as a friend and remember nothing tastes as good as skinny feels!0

Your struggle will be, and probably has been, a great inspiration. I'd love to hear your success stories, which for me are the kind that happen on a daily basis. How someone realizes they can lay down, or pray, or stick celery stick in the mouth, whatever. I'm thinking the long term is the result of those decisions we make, and not really the goal. The goal, for me, is to see how I choose something better, and learn from others about how they make those choices.0

I'm going to be fourty years old this september and I feel like Ive been in the wilderness when it comes to weight loss, I've come to realize it is an addiction to sugar that really has me in this wilderness. I had actually stopped eating all sugary snacks over a year ago. I was doing well until I had that first bite and it's been downhill since then. Somehow getting to fourty I thought would trigger this no more signal in my brain but I think its going to be a battle no matter my age, so I might as well get ready for the fight of my life and stop thinking something magical is going to make this any easier.0

Well, I'm trying a new strategy with the mindfulness, that the very act of taking time to consider what I'm going to have to report on this site will impact my choices.
That's the closest I'll get to magic, but it might actually work. And if I plan around known binges in the mean time, slowly but surely the habits will change.

Awesome strategy ! Today I received some bad news and I found myself wanting to buy a pack of oreo cookies from the snack machine at work but I really thought about who that would hurt not the person causing the pain but myself my goals. So I agree the mindfullness is a very good strategy and no I actually did not buy the cookies!!!!!!!0
