how can you "fix" being over on sodium?

Sometimes I am over on my sodium, sometimes by 500 or more. If I drink extra water (I'm drinking 12 cups a day) on those days, does that help balance it out a little bit, or am I just effed?

Lots of water, lots of potassium.0

I don't think you can truly fix it, drinking more water will dilute it in your system, but you are better off reducing your sodium intake to begin with. Unless you have high blood pressure it's not going to immediately harm you, so just work on reducing it in the future :flowerforyou:0

Raise your daily sodium allotment.0

Its fixed easily by eating more fresh foods less processed foods0

im over a lot as well. Also on the sugar and i don't eat a lot of sweets. The more home cooked meals, the less sodium though.0

Try to eliminate, or at least decrease your pre packaged/processed foods and alternate salt with "no salt." I mean if your serious about fixing your sodium levels you obviously wouldn't want to go and raise the allotted number. Those suggestions are there for a reason.
Why are we trying to wash it out instead of fixing the source of the problem, .... just wondering.0 -
thanks, y'all. I definitely limit my sodium at home, and know when I overdo it if we go out.0

SEE .... You've got this!!!! Eating out and soft drinks can rack those numbers up high, ... fast.
Sodium leads to bloating and water weight gain. The fact that you are conscious of this, shows you're noticing and you're trying.

Best luck to you, I just started watching mine and can tell its going to be very hard not to go over, i went over today
I have HBP so trying to watch it.0 -
Me and my fiance just started watching are sodium in take long with our calories and it looks like it going to be hard work watching both and balancing them out.... You can do it if you want to and don't raise the number because that is not going to help you at all. Just try and watch what you eat when you go out as well. Try something getting whatever has the lowest sodium on the menu. I plan on doing the same just hope I don't give into temptation...0

Generally I think calories are more important than sodium, unless you have high blood pressure. Also 500 over what? if you are under 2500mg I would say your fine (like I said unless you have high BP then around 1500 would be good)
Also if you can increase potassium and magnesium (in most fruits and veggies) these tend to balance out sodium a bit. so try eating a banana or something0
